Why?
Because the forerunners are supposed to be a mystery in the Halo universe. Now we know too much... no mystery no fun!

Look at this -blam!-

I prefer them to be unknown thank you

I... barely agree. But I hope you have a hazmat suit in your closet.

  • 09.05.2011 12:38 AM PDT

Yeah, well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

  • 09.05.2011 12:39 AM PDT

Cool.

Moving on...

I wake up to find myself
After all these years
And where all the time has gone
Still seems so unclear

I think your name is accurate. Specifically in regard to this post.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Why in the name of the Gods are you using Halo Nation? Halopedia is much more accurate.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

This is a moronic reason to dislike the book. Get with the times, the Forerunners are old hat now, the Covenant was just a small part of a larger story - one which revolves around the Forerunners and their war with the Precursors, and the Timeless One.

A mystery left too long just gets boring, there's only so many "what if" scenarios that can be put in before you actually have to go into detail.

I came here to pretty much say this because pretty much everyone who hates Cryptum doesn't like the fact it reveals the Forerunners' ways and story.

The new mystery race is the Precursors, so lets accept that and move on.

To each their own. But, I agree with the rest. If you dont want to know dont read the book, otherwise there's no use in insolent complaining.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

This is a first.

Is it that time to troll the Universe Forum, again? Should be fun.

No no, see this is where you are wrong. There still is a BIG secret. Now we have a BASIC idea of the forerunners. We now have the seceracy of the "Precursor's".

Thus he came alone to Angband's gates, and he sounded his horn, and smote once more upon the brazen doors, and challenged Morgoth to come forth in single combat. And Morgoth came.

This. And I personally really enjoyed cryptum. Forerunner society is very cool in general.... it had to be explained at some point.

It just made the story richer, thats all.

We should know better, because we are better.

Cryptum was good but not my favorite. It was the writing style, felt like it was underdeveloped in some situations.

I like how the reason you hate Cryptum was actually the only good part about that terrible excuse for novel.

If it wasn't for all the interesting back story, I would have NEVER finished it. There was not a single interesting character or plot thread contained therein.

the Covenant was just a small part of a larger story

That explains why there are six games with the Covenant, two of which, with only Covenant, and none with Forerunners or Precursors.

So that means the Foreunners and Precursors are part of a "much larger story" part of the secondary method of storytelling in the Halo lore.

Halo storytelling doesn't suck, it's just scrambled and disjointed.

I'm half n half on it. I always pictured The Foreunners as a lonely, noble race, and would've liked it to stay that way. But like the other folks say, if it stays a mystery too long, it loses it's magic.

I felt the same for Mass Effect 2 when more information was revealed on The Reapers. That's what made them so intimidating, you knew very little on the race of sentient starships that have wiped the Galaxy clean more rimes than you can count. But I knew, some of their secrets had to be shown at some point.
