im sorry but did anyone ask what you think?

Does somebody have to ask what I think in order to throw my 2 cents in? I was ontopic, unlike yourself.

We’re flawed because we want so much more. We’re ruined because we get these things and wish for what we had.

Actually cryptum was a very dry read the plot and character development sadly were horrible otherwise the information gleamed was beautifull especially the ending i liked the most. Also i feel like alot more could have been done. I wish it was a bit bigger with more description and better story telling so as to immerse you into the story and distract you from key little details that could answer alot about the universe. i feel like i was reading a textbook. It felt like a history textbook. I dont know i hated the writing style but loved the story and i can bet it could become more. But thats my opinion.

Honestly I don't understand how the flood evolving from a powder belittles them at all.

Because they are no longer some cliche'd "MONSTER FROM ANOTHER UNIVERSE LOL," doesn't make them any less terrifying. They still evolved into the very enemies we fight in the original trilogy. They still destroyed entire planets easily.

We have been given hints that the Precursors created the Flood. We don't even know all of that powders background. For all we know the Precursors just took a flood parasite, turned it into a type of power, and then sent the jars on a ship towards humanity. We don't know.

This Cryptum hate just baffles me, because it was by far the most interesting book to read because it turns everything you thought you knew about the Halo Universe upside down. The thing is, Greg covered his tracks and made it so that there aren't retcons.

The very first page in the book tells us that everything we've known about Forerunners up until this point could be false.. Born says that the Forerunner story has been told so many different ways that he can hardly recognize it himself. What I'm sure he's referring to, is the terminals.

Immediately you're forced to ignore the terminals because for the first time, there's a possibility that they aren't fact. The story of Cryptum, Primordium, and the third book is the true Forerunner story. There are no conflictions with anything else.

Plus, there's still 2 books left with plenty of plot arcs to be explained.

Even with that and the fact that if changes happen in the Domain the Forerunner do not correct the changes (hence the Forerunner story being told so many different ways) to give him an out from being beholden to past statements about the Forerunner, what's really impressive is that while turning everything we presupposed about the Forerunner up on end, he still hasn't actually contradicted anything that's come before as far as I can tell. Granted we're only one book in to a trilogy, but nothing that's actually been stated about the Forerunner so far seems to have been contradicted. Baer has just taken a lot of what we assumed based on what we knew and messed with our expectations while telling quite an interesting story. That was pretty impressive to me.

Yeah but now the Precursers fill that role. I'm waiting until the Precursurs get fleshed out to where we need another species before THEM to get all mysteried up about.
