Hello, while looking around in the firingsquad forum area, gaming and computer hardware site, in the software and applications section, I found this forum about windows vista and gaming. It's a really interesting read about windows vista, you should read it, maybe it'll change some of your minds about windows vista, who knows.

Great article! It contains less that I didn't know already, but indeed, I hope that it will change the minds of some users here.

One sentence however is not going to be liked by all the "bring Halo 2 to XP"-guys:

If you play games (and maybe even if you don't), you care about the next big version of DirectX. DX10 is going to be Vista-only. It relies on the new driver model, so don't expect some sort of eventual back-port to Windows XP.

Sorry fellas .. lol

Ya, I know what you guys mean,

I mean mircosoft is a just a company, I don't know why people talk so horribly of them. I mean after all, they did invent the OS's that we all use today. And they're great, I mean I think I have never had a problem with a window OS ever. Can you guys think of one, thats not internet related, or virus related or trojan related. I mean come on at least give them some credit.

DId you guys read the part where they still had 6 months of hard working and development left, even if it is a couple weeks or a month old, 6 months of developing it like a new OS!!! :o, wow.

Everyone bad mouths them like they're horrible and evil, and all the delays and everything, but still after reading the article, you ses how much work they're putting in, when they can just make it have a new look and new features and thats it.

Also, they're some parts with dx10 and game development that everyone should read to know about window vista and games.

Also, DON'T give me the credit as I didn't find it by myself, I found it at a place called firingsquad, great gaming and computer hardware site.

Correction: they sell the OS that you use today. They sure as hell didn't invent a graphical OS, and we don't "all" use Windows.

And they're great, I mean I think I have never had a problem with a window OS ever. Can you guys think of one, thats not internet related, or virus related or trojan related. I mean come on at least give them some credit.
Well, there are certain flaws inherent in Windows itself that make it more susceptible to viruses and trojans than every other OS in widespread use.

Everyone bad mouths them like they're horrible and evil
Microsoft has a history of engaging in questionable business practices, but I wouldn't call them "evil". But I'm not going to make purchase decisions based on my opinion of the company that makes the product - that's a classic ad hominem fallacy. I just think that in general Microsoft's products are inferior to many others. I still own an Xbox (Bungie's fault, not Microsoft's), and I use MS Word. Fanboyism is kind of lame.

...I don't think he meant that they invented the graphical OS, just that they created what is most commonly used today. Yes, there are inherent flaws in Windows, but there are flaws in all operating systems. Windows is concentrated on more by people who want to cause damage because it has the largest potential for widescale damage. You know the reason that linux distrobutions are more secure? Because they're open source and a community fixes bugs and issues. Apple decided recently to capitalize on this by building their new OS on a unix base. It has been worked on by more people than Windows ever has been. Just because people have a good opinion of something that you don't share doesn't mean that they're a fanboy. Before I'm accused of it, I use Windows XP and I use Ubuntu.

Ok, I don't want to bash you or anything, but if you say stuff like this you really have to back it up by some hard facts. Otherwise you sound like "just another fanboy".

All those viruses are the OS's fault. Windows has sooooo many security flaws, a lot of which can't be fixed unless they completly rewrite the whole damn thing.

which is basically what they've done. the core of vista is similar, so as not to break old software, but they've redone it so that it would not exhibit the old vulnerabilities. I read that article. Absolutely awesome.

finally, a reason dx10 isnt coming to xp. it requires the new driver structure.

and another thought. if it is as they say and dx10 will require all graphics cards to be similar enough to meet a certain standard... than the pc will truly overpower the console. At this point consoles have more optimized graphics because their architecture are the same... if pc's now require to have video cards that will run the code the same way... then pcs will have ub3r optimized graphics also. consoles... will be obsolete :D

Ya, people should read the part about dx10 and gaming. It's an entirly new directx. It's not just an imrpoved version of dx9. They built it from nothing, thats why theres dx10 support for xp, only the so called dx9.L.

Well, its a good read, and you find out what MS is really doing on the OS, instead of seeing the videos and screenshots and considering it to be a Mac OS X ripoff and an touched up version of xp.

umm either you misunderstood the article or typed that wrong. theres no dx10 support for xp. and 9.L is their way of making it so you can still run 9.0 and earlier games in vista cause dx10 wont be backwards compatible.

it seems that if youre thinking of buying a new card you might want to wait for dx10.

Wonder how many people have read the article so far.......
