I <3 you too Bungie

Hey guys, quick thoughts.

What do you think about the idea of a new element to bungie.net that gives more of a relational aspect to our interaction with each other and Bungie? One of the things my co-op buddies talk about is how interaction on forums, personal sites, etc. has become prescribed, sterile, and generally...not dynamic/fluid/unique. What if we had a dashboard on the home page of trending comments, members, or forums? The basic idea would be to highlight interactions that make bungie.net unique. Examples of trends could be:

Highly replied-to comment
Traffic trend on a thread/forum
Current active discussion (thread with the most activity when you log on)
Similar member (active in the same areas/times as you)

The reason I bring this up is that it could provide another layer of depth to membership that would solidify a community feeling and generate more substantial interaction. This may help generate activity that isn't forum-competition in nature, but rather collaborative. It would be cool if the community could be building ideas and discussions, not hacking away at each other's ideas. Maybe something along these lines would be a help to pointing that direction?

:)

Decent idea, doubt it would happen though...

So popular posts would be advertised on the home page?

I'm neutral about this. On one hand it would be easier to see active topics. On the other hand, couldn't you see what threads were active by looking at the forums?

I'm more interested on whether this could/would/should work to the end that I'm talking about. I think we all know that Gioconda is gonna do what he's gonna do regardless of us. Maybe we can be the idea farm though. :)

Yeah, the idea is to highlight activity that isn't just related to the current prescribed structure of the site. Point users to an idea, person, or active area that they may not usually attend.

Go check out The Community Carnage!

Bungiepedia
Destinypedia

A few years ago groups used to have a box on the homepage that contained the most popular thread in it.
I doubt it would be too hard for them to put it back in if they wanted to, you might even see it happen soon... Groups are in need of an update after all.

I see it in the opposite direction.

Similar to a post count, I think that this would only encourage trolls and posting for the sake of posting, not for discussion.
It would encourage the competition and interaction you wish to reduce.

You've got the right intention, but the method needs work.

I think that would work well. On http://www.gameinformer.com they have something similar to what you speak of.

Yeah, it may be a bad example to highlight a thread. Maybe sticking with users, similar areas of activity to your personal use of the site, or some other descriptor would be better. Also, not everyone is as egregiously visceral as The Flood.

Sorry Bnet forum goers are all antisocial and do not want bungie.net to be a social network.

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

Interesting, but it doesn't really seem to fit into this site. Plus some of these features are already covered.

Current active discussion (thread with the most activity when you log onAny thread at the top of the forum page.

Highly replied-to commentJust look for the yellow septagon beside a thread. (Or a hot topic.)

Similar member (active in the same areas/times as you)Most users, including myself already know who they are going to see when they log onto the forums. Although very large, this community is very tight-knit.

I would argue that this forum is very clique-ish. Why not encourage a more well-rounded interaction?

I think it's pretty obvious that social elements don't turn sites into social media. Part of my objection to the status quo is that it's all social-site prescribed crap.

Also, knowing where to find activity is different from being pointed to activity. It's like having Bungie suggest something for you, rather than just laying out the options.

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I really like the idea. I would like other options along with forums "trends", but at the same time this sounds like a huge stretch. A whole new interface system might be a bit extreme, nonetheless, I love the idea.

Bungie.net is a social networking site by definition; "an online community of people with a common interest who use a Web site or other technologies to communicate with each other and share information," matches Bungie.net exactly, at least in its forums.

The thing is, though, that you're probably already familiar with the people who frequent the forums and threads you do, and statistically overlapping interest and activity isn't really a useful thing to know.
Sure, it'd be nice, and it'd foster community, but the knowledge, "Hey, Jujubes spends his time on the site like I do," stops there.

Personally, I'd just like to see a notification for being quoted in an inbox separate from PMs.

"Nothing in the 'Verse can stop me."

Suggesting a Twitter feature for BNet? That's new.

Your comment is completely useless and circular in logic. At least toss out a real reason why you think this is a poor concept.
