Titan.

I mean, at the time of Reach falling, sheilds wouldn't be that strong would they? It took enough to power a Spartan, how would it power a Sabre sheild?

I haven't read all the books, so I'm probobaly wrong.

Because gameplay required it.

I'm not sure what you are talking about with power... But sabers were most likely the next step, applying energy shields to fightercraft. It's one up from powered armor.

By power I mean how strong the shields are and so on.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

UNSC energy shields (The one reverse engineered from Covenant Jackal Shield tech) have always been described to be more efficient than the Covenants own shield tech. Only thing is that in gameplay, they have to toned down and the Covenants toned up to make the game fun.

I'm sure the next step was applying shield's to capital ships. I wouldint be surprised if the UNSC as close.

Not really. They could have just given us more health.

wtf i'm sure it's the other way round...

The sabers were experimental. They were built to test a ship-board shield system. But upon the fall of Reach, all the data and progress was lost. That's why you never see any other human ships with shields.

Kat even says that the Saber Program was dismissed by three administrations as "preposterous rumor".

5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

It was an experimental program. There was a reason it wasn't fully funded. I'm assuming the shields weren't cost effective, or they were dangerous. Who knows?

The Sabre program was kind of a prototype. The UNSC continued to experiment with covenant shield tech. Most likely, when they found Spartan shielding to be a huge success, they decided to take it to ships. Its like the next step up. My guess is that if the sabre program went well, they would start implementing shields to larger ships like Marathon cruiser and such.

They have them for defence.

here ^

the saber program was experimental and highly classified. so it would make sense that the unsc would spend time and money to integrate defensive shield technology into newer and better weapons of war.

also because they were the unsc's first land based short range fighter built for orbital and sub-orbital defense. (i.e. launch into space with out a carrier.)

No, he's got it right. The covenant mimicked Forerunner technology without expanding upon it, and hardly came close to the Forerunners' capabilities. They were not innovative, and never sought to improve their technology beyond simple imitations. The humans conducted extensive research into the covenant tech, and managed to discover a more efficient system that the Covenant were neglecting to take advantage of.

Platinum pwnz

i believe there are currently satellites with invisible shields, so 500 years later they probably have huge shields so why not put one on a sabre

0_o, How come spartan sheilds wern't even up to ultra level, as well as recharging slower...

And i'm sure they upgraded, didn't the covie cruiser have really powerful and fast recharging sheilds?

Canon-wise, MJOLNIER marks V and VI were better than your average sangheili's shielding.

Mark V was the first one with power armor, so we weren't that great it it yet.

*Without using a ridiculous amount of energy. The MJOLNIR armor needed a backpack fusion reactor to power the shields, and while we were never given direct figures, I'm betting that's a large part of why MJOLNIR armor is so expensive. The Sabre program was most likely small because of the prohibitive cost of the shield and fusion technology. To shield a full capital ship would require an exponentially large power supply, and given how long it takes just to charge a MAC blast, it would not be feasible.

So what I'm saying is that the Sabre's probably had pretty strong energy shields, but it's also possible that even in canon, Elite shields are probably much better than Jackal shields, so even if MJOLNIR's shields are better than Jackal shields, they're probably worse than Elite's shields (At least the higher-ranking ones).

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

The reason Spartan shields weren't incredibly powerful, not that they weren't good, was because of the energy requirements. Bigger vehicle, bigger energy source, stronger shields.
