Subject: So now that forums have died down a bit...

... what say you all to making Linked Gamertags necessary to post or even just create threads in the gaming forums (i.e. Halo 3, ODST, Reach... not Crimson though of course)?

Sure Bungie's going multi-platform soon... but not for a while. So PS3 and Windows stuff wouldn't even matter. Not that it'd matter anyways considering Reach, 3, and ODST are Xbox 360 games anyways.

And it's not like it'd take much time to do. It's basically just copying the Optimatch rules to the Reach/3 forums, right? So the 'oh they have more important stuff to do' deal isn't that valid from what I can see.

And sure it's fairly simple to create a new account on Xbox.com or whatever, but it still takes a bit of time. Moreso than the incredibly easy Bnet account creation process. So it'd waste the time of people trying to be asshats a bit, and if someone wants to talk about Halo here they'd probably have a GT already.

Also considering most Halo related discussion should be going to 343's forums, so really it would rarely matter in the slightest to new members.

Or perhaps require a GOLD membership or something, if that's even possible. Meh.

Nothing but a good thing.

What would that accomplish? I would prefer not linking my gamertag. Even though I can make it "hide-able", I prefer keeping my gamertag completely anonymous.

Why would it matter? Maybe people who just want to learn about the games want to post there. I don't feel it should be necessary.

If you have one you can link it. Then click 'hide.' That IS completely anonymous. Nobody but you can see it. And if you're that afraid to link it then I can't see why you'd need to be making threads in that forum anyways.

Piss off the asshats.
Maybe people who just want to learn about the games want to post there.
Then they can link their gamertag if they want to learn about a 4 year old game that pretty much every gamer knows about. Otherwise? They can go to the forums that are actually still actively about Halo. Our Halo forums are just there for Bnet folks. The 343 forum is where those people should be going. So either way it doesn't really affect them that much.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I was expecting a sexy dance party.

I see what you're getting at, but I'm sure some of the people who don't have a linked GT wouldn't like it. It sure would reduce spam though, and should be taken into consideration IMO.

Maybe if this was 2008 when it actually would have made a difference.

  • 09.05.2011 3:14 PM PDT

Key

Linked XBL GT that's played Halo matchmaking (has any game of multiplayer matchmaking in game history ever, meaning at some time they had a gold GT at some time) or a PSN account that's played Destiny. This is only implementable, obviously, a month or two after Destiny is released because some PS3 players might come over just to ask "WTF is this?" or something like that for the first month or so.

Probably this.

Make choices, and don't look back.

I like the idea. It would prevent a good amount of the spam and flame wars that get started by users w/o gamertag linked accounts. That's one of the reasons I stopped visiting the Reach forums. New users w/ unlinked accounts starting flame wars about how you suck if this and that.

What about people that don't have Xbox Live? I bet there are some around. Of course, they could just create a Gamertag on xbox.com, but they shouldn't need to. I think the rule was only really there in the Optimatch because there was no need for people without XBL to discuss matchmaking.

Gold Membership....hmm....I like the sound of that. Does it mean the champagne room?

Anyways, I don't think you should have to link a Game Tag to post. While it probably wouldn't affect a lot of people these days, Bungie is not really all about Halo. They had other games that where not Xbox and not all people play Halo's MP, so they technically wouldn't need a Gamer Tag. So why force them to have a GT in order to post? Again, probably not affecting alot, but just looking at the history of it.

Elm? I shudder to think where Bnet would be without your pessimism.

They can either make an account or go to the 343 forums. A lot of us are still here either because we're too lazy to move, or because of Bungie rather than Halo. If new people are coming in to talk about Halo, they shouldn't be doing it here.

but they shouldn't need to.Why?

Ah, but that's why I said only in those game forums. The Community, Flood, possibly Universe... all those forums would be unaffected so people here for past games or Bungie and their future can discuss them to their hearts content. They would be completely unaffected by this.

I just can't see any downside to this.

  • 09.05.2011 3:21 PM PDT

Well, why would they? What are you trying to prove? What are you hoping to achieve?

Stupid idea.

Activity is running low, hell let's get burrito in and we can kill it altogether.

  • 09.05.2011 3:22 PM PDT

I'll be on my own side.

Halo will always be associated with Bungie, and there should be a place to discuss it here, no matter how hidden it may be in submenus. I can't think of any reason to make people jump through hoops to discuss it.

  • 09.05.2011 3:22 PM PDT

"I don't care if it's God's own anti-Son of a -blam!- Machine or a giant hula-hoop!"

How about we make every user undergo a background check! And then the password is a finger and retina scan, limit 1 account per DNA set. Because, after all, the internet is srs bsns.

(This idea really won't do any good. It will simply delay the spammers, it won't completely stop any. Too little, too late.)

  • 09.05.2011 3:23 PM PDT

New members without 'tags wouldn't be allowed to post in certain forums. What upside is there?

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

You're going to cause more harm than good with that.

Not a good idea for multiple reasons that I won't state because I can't think of them right now.

Then why force people to wait 24h before they can post topics?

That's for all members, though, not just those who want to post in the Game Forums.
