That's for all members, though, not just those who want to post in the Game Forums.

Oh hey there

It's a metaphor for the 07s' lack of identity. too old to be newfag, yet too new to be oldfag, we wander b.net in search of a home, forever trying to be something we are not.

I think the idea has some merit. It would definitely cut down on alt accounts being made to troll the forums, if not eliminate them completely.

Well, why would they? What are you trying to prove? What are you hoping to achieve?
Posted by: burritosenior
but they shouldn't need to.Why?
Why'd you make me read your post without knowing whom you were replying to, then look at the quote, then have to go BACK to read your post in content? That makes me sad.
:,(

They would need to because it's mandatory to make threads in that forum. They'd either do it or they wouldn't. I'm not trying to prove anything. What this would achieve is wasting the time of the asshats while providing minimum-to-no disruption for regular members (who would only need to link a single gamertag as opposed to asshats doing it dozens of times).

Halo will always be associated with Bungie, and there should be a place to discuss it here, no matter how hidden it may be in submenus. I can't think of any reason to make people jump through hoops to discuss it.
Linking a gamertag is hardly 'jumping through hoops.' It's something a majority of people making threads in those forums have already done for one.
Yes there should be a place to discuss Halo here. I'm not suggesting getting rid of forums. In fact, I'm suggesting cleaning them up (shoot it's already rare enough that a mod goes into the Halo 3 or ODST forum [and no not because of advertisements in the latter, which are allowed]).

Posted by: ctjl96
New members without 'tags wouldn't be allowed to post in certain forums. What upside is there?
What new member is going to come here without a linked gamertag to discuss a game they don't have a gamertag to? And how big of a hassle it is to make and link a gamertag even on the incredibly rare occasion that someone doesn't have one already? Really... you're sort of arguing nothingness here.

My first post explains the upside, and I have done so in a couple posts since. I'd advise reading through those first, then asking again if you're still confused.

Yes it is. Does the 24 hour limit not apply if you're posting about Halo?

  • 09.05.2011 3:41 PM PDT

That's not a huge inconvenience, nor is it Game Forum-specific.

I have read them. It sounds like you are stereotyping new members, and want them to link their GTs in the hopes of more educated discussion. Although this may be true, you need to think of the new members before you start saying "Well, only people with linked Gamertags should be able to post because less asshats will be there."

Neither is linking a gamertag.

nor is it Game Forum-specific.So? Would you be opposed if we forced everyone to link a gamertag or similar? I don't understand why the 24 hour ban on topic creation for all accounts is fine, bearing in mind such a limit encompasses any limits that are game forum-specific, while something specifically and constructively targeted is not.

...Oh man Elm is going to have a field day with that response but I can't help but post too:

So you're saying that linking a gamertag, a process that takes but seconds, is a huge inconvenience? PLEASE tell me you aren't implying (actually, you directly said it and I'm using this statement to express incredulity) that!

And that feature isn't bad because it actually stops MORE people than this? Oh my goodness. That's... that's so backwards I'm not sure I can argue.

  • 09.05.2011 3:49 PM PDT

Actually, you're sort of right. I wouldn't care if they needed to link their gamertag, but I wouldn't actually ask them to do it. Both ways make sense, and since the forum activity has been a bit down lately, I don't suppose it would matter if they made you link your GT to post in Game Forums.

Now you guys are just being asses and you're starting to derail the topic. Don't be rude because others disagree. I'm leaving this thread.

I disagree to an extent. All though I do agree that any game past Halo:Reach should go to the forums of 343i, I think that the first halo games should remain at bungie.net (excluding Halo Wars because it wasn't made by Bungie or 343i. The reason being is the "classic" Halo players would be very displeased with the changes because, come on, it would ruin the whole bases of a Bungie community that we stand on. The fact that Bungie made these games shows that the forums should stay in their website. My self I was very displeased that Bungie wasn't making any more halo games (especially Halo C.E. Anniversary considering it's using Reach's engine and it's a revamp of their first game). So that's why I think Bungie should keep the forums of their games.

You have my most sincere apologies if you took offense to me calling your post... er... 'silly.'

Ninjaman? I never said once that I wanted them to remove the forums. It never crossed my mind. I'm suggesting a way to help them, not remove them.

Hmm. Perhaps. That might be better for a second thread though.

There, you just answered your own question.

This is Bungie's forum, not Microsofts.

Creating a "fake" gamertag takes just as long as creating an account, it will change nothing anyways.

  • 09.05.2011 4:52 PM PDT

At this point, that wouldn't really do anything.

I don't believe I asked a question.

This is Bungie's forum, not Microsofts. ...And? I never said it wasn't. Actually, I think I said that it WAS Bungie's forums multiple times.

Creating a "fake" gamertag takes just as long as creating an account, it will change nothing anyways. It takes a bit longer, though not much. Hence why it doesn't inconvenience anybody except the asshats that have to do it every single time they get banned. Thus it's nothing but a good thing.
And it would change something. I've said this.

I'd like to be half-man half-tree in an octopus' garden in the shade.

We could either do that, causing inconvenience for more than just the jerks of the forums, or we could all just ignore them, which is much less work and ultimately ends up making the efforts of jerks completely pointless.

I'm in favor of making people link their GT to their account even if its hidden. But requiring in a Gold account I think is a bit harsh, it might cause more harm than good.

I see you're trying to eliminate the spam/alt account etc and I think its a step in the right direction.

For this to do anything it would have to be gold memberships only, otherwise people will just create silver accounts on xbox.com and link them.

Ugh. Please don't start with the goody two-shoes 'oh we could all just do this and everything will be peachy' thing.
>.<
We all know that isn't going to happen, so suggesting it is meaningless.

Actually I'm perfectly willing to compromise on my own thoughts about the Gold/Silver. Some people are silver temporarily and the likes. But the goal isn't to completely stop asshats or anything (which I can think of one very, very good way of doing that in these forums but there's no way I'd get peoples' agreement for it so I won't even say the idea). Merely to lessen their presence and waste a lot more of their time. If silvers can be used then it doesn't even inconvenience the regular member in the slightest.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten
