Subject: So now that forums have died down a bit...

Yeah, they should tie themselves even more tightly to XBL as they prepare to go multi-platform. Great idea. :-/
Yes because requiring a linked gamertag in the forums of the games where you can only play if you have a gamertag is tying themselves SO tightly.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I love this idea.

Wake me, when you need me.

Nah. It's fine the way it is, senor.

  • 09.05.2011 7:15 PM PDT

I no longer use XBL, but I still enjoy the forums and watching what Bungie is doing next. I may game again someday, but I don't see why I'd have to leave or be unable to post until then.

They can all be played offline with no gamertag. I understand the reasoning for wanting what you have proposed, however I believe that it wouldn't work as is unecessary.

Ass-hats and trolls are quite annoying, however people need to report them so that the mods can ban them. (While I was typing this I realized that banning the ass-hats doesn't work, and that's why you've suggested this, however I still think it would inconvenience too many legitimate forum goers for it to be worth it.)

  • 09.05.2011 7:18 PM PDT

I wouldn't mind. It would cut down the trolls and spam a bit, but on the other hand it would also cut a large part of the community who has genuine things to discuss. If this were to deny non-linked users, at least they would still have the official forum to discuss Halo over at 343i.

You will be kicking out members of both sides of the community spectrum. On one side you have the troll and mass spammers, and on the other end you have members who have been here for years without a linked gamertag, and have been extremely friendly to the community- why risk losing those members with this new system?

I'm trying to become an '04, but it's not working too well."

Every forum should be gamertag required EXCEPT the Halo forums.

How's that for wishful thinking

I like having my GT linked to my Bungie.net profile and MAYBE will link my PSN network logon although I RARELY use PSN for anything

Halo will always be associated with Bungie.

It was never the same after Halo 2, they just couldn't care less.

I kinda feel like they felt they botched Halo 2 (as many of us did) and were really ready at that point to get Halo over with. Makes me wonder how long they have had Destiny in the works, though...

:)

Not that it matters now, but this is a stupid idea.

When I first made my Bungie account, I didn't have Xbox Live. I came here to just talk about the game I loved and had been playing for years.

Gamers Anon

Achronos: And what's this about a "design team" I've been hearing? Apparently stosh is so awesome he's now considered a "team".

I'm all for this, even though we will probably see a lot more appeals to bans and possibly alts.

We should also enforce the rules. Repeat offenders who get banned often should be permanently removed from the forums. If you cant learn your lesson then you should be out. When bungies new game is announced this place with get flooded with new members. Alot of them wont know the rules, so why waste our time with older members who should know better?

To be honest, having a linked account to your xbl account would help with the increasing number of alt troll accounts. Combine that with a having to have a gold account as well as your account linked, and then it would really make a difference. But the downside to that is you really shouldn't have to pay to be apart of the forums here, because essentially that's what it would come down to.

Agreed, so the people that actually play are the only ones that can use it.

Looking for clan that isn't too serious? Then join the ODST 501st Airborne Battalion. Go to http://www.501st.forumclan.com for more info.

Is this where the clowns put on their shows?

The tide is turning, brothers! Let us take our kingdom back!

I don't have XBL because of our budget router.

I'd prefer if the forums stayed the way they were.

Which is rare that someone would come to the forums to discuss the game then. Especially considering this is not the place to discuss Halo anymore.

And if by some circumstance such a person did still come here? It is not an inconvenience in the slightest to make an XBL account. In fact it's incredibly easy. Only when someone needs to do it multiple times does it become an inconvenience.

I still think it would inconvenience too many legitimate forum goers for it to be worth it.The previous text in this post non-withstanding, you guys assume that there are a LOT more of these people than there really are.

If they're that afraid of linking their gamertag then they probably don't need to be making threads in the Halo forums, now do they? And if somehow they did? They can create another account. After all, since we've established it's an easy process and doesn't inconvenience new members, and since we've established that the people in your situation wouldn't be linking their real gamertag anyways, then there is absolutely no harm whatsoever done.

Again, I see absolutely no downside to doing this.

Not that it matters now, but this is a stupid idea.
Provide reasoning.
When I first made my Bungie account, I didn't have Xbox Live. I came here to just talk about the game I loved and had been playing for years.
...And? Do you have one now? All this would do is it would have had you make it even earlier. And if you still don't? Then you have lost nothing.

Again, provide reasoning for your opinions, because all you basically says was 'I don't like this because of a situation that is moreorless irrelevant to the point.'

Arch? An XBL account is free. It's only the Gold Membership that costs money.

Excellent! Then it doesn't affect you in the slightest to link a gamertag you created via Xbox.com! That's wonderful!

just not being able to participate in any forum they wish. Weren't expecting this quick a reply ;)And sure they can participate in any forum they wish. If they wish to create threads in the Halo forums, however, they would need a linked gamertag.

Sides... how many folks without Linked Gamertags go around making threads in those forums for legitimate reasons? You don't see too many, really. The vast majority of people there have linked gamertags, whether they're asshats or not. Not many threads are made in those forums by unlinked GT folks, and the few that haven't linked them? This gives them the motivation to do so.
