He bypassed the profanity filter, thus banned himself for the sake of integrity.

And so he should have, they're also members here and it sets a pretty poor example for everyone if even they don't follow the rules they're supposed to enforce in the first place.

This was basically what I was going to say. This situation just goes to show that the moderators aren't above the forum rules (but if you think about it, wouldn't he have gotten out of it if he didn't ban himself?).

That's an interesting question. Would another mod have banned him? I personally doubt it.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Except it's not breaking the rules IF THEY POST IN THE THREAD THEY'RE ABOUT TO LOCK. They are allowed to do that, you know. That's why you oftentimes see a 'final word' from a mod in a thread that was breaking the rules. You know, you've been around here for 2 years but it's like you just joined the site 4 minutes ago, you know almost nothing about the moderation process.

So let me get this straight, it is "okay" for the mods to post off topic in threads they are about to lock?

It is still spamming, being off topic, and replying to obvious spam which IS bannable and people have been banned for that when a ninja was about to lock the thread.

I think I proved my point.

I know how this site's moderation works, I have been in the short end of the stick for a long time on the site seeing people not get banned for things I have been banned for.

Oh well, I will turn over a new leaf.

But, it was cool of Recon to enforce the rules, especially when he was breaking them.

The rest of the mods should follow his example and ban themselves for all the pointless and disruptive offtopic spam they're posting in this forum. Make it a month.

My thoughts exactly.

But the kiss asses do love their precious mods.

Hey man, don't be rude.

Ken, it's actually not against the rules for the Mods to post in a thread they're going to lock. However, they break the rules all the time, although Ken's example wasn't a great one. E.g., this instance disappointed me.

Really? Please explain, and give examples.

This is one of my favorites

I see people post off topic or say strange things but if I do any of that I will (and have) been banned for it.

Nice to see the shoe on the other foot.

LOL it was locked after 5 posts, and all of those posts were by mods. Please explain how that's breaking the rules.

- Replying to spam
- posting spam
- off topic

I <3 this site and it is fun posting here but I HATE hypocrites.

I hope the mods don't become more strict, I mean, it is so easy to get banned here already for almost ANYTHING.

But, we could be more lenient.

Thank you for that great example.

That is exactly what I am talking about.

I see moderators do things JUST like that but ban people for even less spam like responses.

It isn't fair and it isn't right to us. :/

That wasn't actually him. You can tell because when you quote the OP, it shows that the "edit" was manually written. Real edits don't actually count as part of the post.

The edit is also in slightly lighter colour than the actual post.

Just to make this clear, you want them to ban or warn themselves for posting in an off-topic spam-topic, while being on-topic to the off-topic?

Think about it, thouse replies would have happened regardless (this is the Septagon afterall). And in my experience, unless someones crossed a line, it's all fun and games. Those types of threads happen every day with nomal members, why not have a little fun with other mods and take care of the issue at the same time?

They should make chibi dolls of the mods, each one comes with their own ironic catchphrase.

A comical comparison has entered my mind where some of the mods could be compared to Chief from Arby 'n' the Chief.

"Freeze! TOSERS! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND!"

Not really, here is what I notice.

Many people here have been here for years and know the mods well.

So, when an older member here posts off topic or says something odd, the mods laugh and don't ban.

But if I (a 2 year old member) do that, it is considered bannable.

In fact, I made a thread that was locked, got a warning BUT!!!!, some kid made almost the same exact thread 3 days later and the mods posted in it.

My thread

Another users thread

Similar, worded differently. Mine was about what employees and forum members do outside of Bungie.net, his was about what employees do outside of Bungie.net.

LOL, Foman doesn't appeal bans, I have tried like 2 times.

Yes, but that's the worst case I've seen, aside from the time where they messed with the OP (similar to this) and actually got warned by Duardo. It's really not a problem, but I see where you're coming from.

They moderate the site, but they don't post often. I couldn't care less when they just post little jokes and such, but instead of locking the thread like they should have they messed with the confused OP and then didn't even lock the thread; it went on for a bit before Foman locked it. That I don't think is okay -- the rest isn't really that bad.

Yeah, the mods picked on the OP for a spelling mistake and derailed the thread in 2 posts.

I know if it was me, I would get smacked with the ban hammer.

Look, I don't care if they post jokes, I hate seeing people banned, but it is a 2 way street, they can't just ignore the rules for their sake and enforce the rules strictly on us.

God damn, you're a broken record with this stuff. Stop breaking the rules and you won't have a problem. Until you learn your lesson you're going to continue to get banned and then I'll have to keep reading your complaints...

Calm yer pants, it's not your problem. If you don't break the rules originally then you won't have to think about "when I did that" when others do it.
