Why are most users on Bnet so against name changes? Thousands of other communities feature this option and they do just fine. It won't be very confusing. There is countless ways to make it not confusing at all. For instance: If someone hovers the mouse over your name, a little window will pop up showing that users previous name.

If you guys honestly think name changes are that hard/confusing; you need to go back to 1st grade.

I think most people here understand that it wouldn't work because of the amount of work that would be required from the site administrators to keep up with all the requests, not that we don't want name changes.
It's really simple... Just use an automated system like everyone else does.

Key

No. You should be stuck with the one you made. There's no reason you should have to change your name unless you have OCD or a condition like that that would warrant or necessitate a username change. In that situation, I have no problem with someone getting their name changed.

But you shouldn't be able to change your name 95% of the time.

I know, what's with all the name-change threads all of a sudden?

2 years is meaningless, just make a new account if you don't like your name.
My account is 2 tomorrow :(

2morrow, hehe

Allowing name changes on a regular basis would wreck havoc on the forums, take the search function: if you search for Person "bob" who just had his name changed from pfhor, his posts would be found, but not any others who had quoted him, since quotes aren't dynamic. Groups are another example, if the founder's name changes, it doesn't update on the group homepage. Bungie.net simply isn't built to handle casual name changes.

Because over the course of several years, your mind and brain significantly furthers in development. During that time, a lot of opinions and other things change including your taste in certain things.

"Dude I made this awesome gamertag, I don't think I'll ever change it!"
*2011*
"What the hell? What was I thinking when I made such a dumb name?"

that happens to a lot of people. TO be honest, I would go crazy if I was stuck with a name like CrazzySnipe55. No I'm not insulting your name, but I can definitely tell by your username that you're most likely under the age of 16. Like I exampled earlier, you made an awesome name when you were 14? Sweet. Wait until you're 17 or 18 when your mind is much more mature, and you'll probably think what a stupid name that was.

And when you're 18 and older, you don't want your name to look like a 14 or 15 year old made it. You want your name to reflect your age or maturity level. So that's why some people have a change of heart all the sudden, and want their name changed.

You see my point? I've made several examples, but I can go on...

Reach fails as a game.

Get jealous.

How about no? I've heard beter suggestions, like one change every 18 months, at least. That is more than fair, most users would only want one change to clean up some minor errors they made at signup anyway.

Hello, my Bungie.net account is: T1B3R7uMB0YXVI , and I would like to change my name to: Respectless member.

Why do you want your name changed?
Over the years, my username mocks me of my young self. Many member have taunted me for the immature and incomplete username.

How old is your account?
I think it's about four/five years old.

Mythic members are like people with tattoos. Just as soon as you become a Mythic member, you can kick anyone's ass. It really works.

You don't start building a house if you don't have the foundation.
For those who don't have half a brain;

How many times have you seen a username changed on Bungie.net?
close to none.

Why would achronos even BEGIN start accepting hundreds to thousands of requests for name changes?

The two that I can think of right off.

When it comes down to it, you can always PM Achronos if you want a username change. Just don't be surprised if(when) it doesn't happen.

I am not computer programmer but I think 10 name changes a month is a fair amount, yes?

Posted by: spartain ken 15
Once your name has been changed, it can not be changed again for a MINIMUM of 6 months,

Wut.

Anyway. This is a shocking idea - as I'm sure others have pointed out already. I will admit that for a while there I wanted my name changed to my GT, but I've grown to accept the name that I have.

If you want a new name, just make a new account. (It also begs the question why you named your account the way you did if you didn't like it..? Oh wait, never mind. I just noticed that you spelt 'Spartan' wrong.)

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

So... PM an employee to ask for a name change?

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

I like the idea but only for 5+ year members.

I'd love a name change.

Because, when I first made an account here, I intended it to be Donut Fun. But I used the wrong e-mail, so I had to make another, so I tacked on another "n".

But by now, I'm sure "Donut Fun" is deleted, so I'd love to be able to change my name to it.

Sup bro? Heard you talking about me, thought I'd stop by and say hi.

-_-

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally?

Had to be done, mang. HAD TO BE.

It's like a gigantic snowball, rolling down a mountain, eating kids on the way.

I think there should be an option or pathway to changing you're name, but the pre-requisites for it should be pretty daunting.

I think members should have to meet certain requirements before being able to request a name change:

-Member for at LEAST 2 or 3 years.
-No bans/severe warnings within those 2 years.
-Can only request a name change every 2 years. (It would be annoying seeing peoples names change SO often)

These requirements would really narrow down how many requests the web team will have to take care of. They won't be getting thousands of requests, but instead maybe only a hundred.

It seems fair to me, and gets rid of the "too many requests" excuse.
