Since we are on the subject, I've seen OT been used before on these forums. Does this mean Original Topic or something completely different?

I have always thought that OT meant on topic.

It would be Original Post, not Original Poster. You can't refer to this first post as an Original Poster, but you can refer to it as an Original Post.

The post (post) itself overrules the user (poster), because the post is all that matters, the member is not important.

OT usually means "On Topic". It's used when you're referring to something off topic in the beginning of your post and then when you get to the part where you respond to the OP, you go something like this:

"...so thats why toast is better than triangle.

OT: Yeah, armor lock is definitely Bungie's attempt to push their liberal agenda. You couldn't be more spot on."

"OP left the thread" = "Original Poster left the thread"

"OP left the thread" =/= "Original POST left the thread"

OP means either 'original post' or 'original poster', depending on the situation.

When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

Obviously context determines its meaning, but it will typically be the original (starting) post of a thread, or the poster who made it.
