Subject: Effective countermeasures are insufficient...

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I have noticed lately that some people are not getting the idea that Bungie is not in charge of Halo anymore.

Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not.
Here is what I think should be done.

A screen should pop-up with something like this and you have to agree you read what Bungie had to say in order to make a new thread; Know that Bungie is not in charge of Halo, and that if you post off topic, it is on your head and you can't use the excuse you didn't know.

It is becoming a problem and something more "in your face" may be needed.

Thoughts?

That message is pretty much in the middle of the screen when you click "reply."

Can't do much better than that. It's not so bad. Most people come here out of habit, and even when HCEA and Halo 4 come out, people that like Halo will still come here.

I think it's fine how it is. Yes, some users don't know that Bungie doesn't control Halo anymore but that's their fault for not reading.

I think links top 343i should be more prominent.

The point of this is to make sure everyone knows the rules and agree that they know them, again.

Besides, pop-ups?

On Bungie?

It seems evident people aren't getting the message.

Which I don't understand.

But, I thought maybe trying to be "in your face", might help a little.

We should just change either font size, font type, or font colour (is still attention grabbing, but is far less annoying) and not proceed to make a pop up every time a user wishes to post.

No, it would be a one time thing.

And ONLY if you submit a thread.

It basically is a simple, short post saying Bungie is not in charge of 343i, provide a link to new Halo forums, and of course the agreement.

In order to make a new thread, you would have to agree you read the short new rule and accepted the agreement.

That way if they do post off-topic Halo stuff here, they have no excuse becuase they were told not to post that and were given links to the correct forum.

Treat others in the manner that you would like to be treated. I doubt you would want me to "get in your face" about anything, and likewise I don't think we should get in other peoples faces by making that notice any larger.

The only improvement that I can think of is to add a link to the 343i forums. There was already an entire thread on this subject though, and it died with nothing ever happening so I highly doubt that message will be changed up until it is removed completely.

EDIT: Here is the post I mentioned early, with the simple suggestion of adding a link.

It's not Bungie's responsibility to coddle everyone into realizing they're not in charge anymore. If people aren't getting the message, why should Bungie care?

They are a game studio first and foremost. Whatever happens here is secondary, and even then, only a select few actual Bungie employees are responsible for the site. So excuse them if they don't feel the need to do more, they're in the middle of way more important things.

One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

With these constant flow of members, it's not possible to get everyone. It's a rough balance between lack of information vs. too many heads-ups in folks' faces.

Someone can make that sound more formal.

If a countermeasure is insufficient... Then it must not be effective after all.

Maybe whenever you press "Create New Topic", a voice should scream WE DON'T DO HALO!!!

That might help.

I understand but ignorance to the rules is not excusable.

It is obvious that quite a few people aren't getting the message so I propose that in order to make a thread, they have to agree they got the message.

I'd say ban them, but that wouldn't work because you continue to post lame and in my opinion, unnecessary ideas.

You know, from what I have seen on the forums, people don't care about the idea, they care who the user who posted it was.

If someone else posted this, I could guarantee you more people would like this.

Either way, I want to see this forum to always get new members but they have to be kept up to date and I want all of them to know "BUNGIE is NOT in charge of Halo"!!!

Why are we even discussing this?

Why are you so eager to throw up a warning and start banning people because they are posting in the wrong forum?

Why do we need to ban people for such trivial things?

I don't waste my life on here, so I may have not noticed a huge change, but from what I've seen, this place is exactly as it always has been, a few off-topic halo posts here and there, big -blam!- deal.

You just said you want this forum to get new members? What's the best way to lose them? Banning their asses on the spot because they posted in the wrong forum.

That will never happen anywhere at anytime in any place much less an online gaming forum.
