Just curious, think its a good idea?

Basically limits someone from overtaking the conversation and making more pointful, helpful and meaninfful posts.

I'm not say like 10 a day, obviously it would be a large cap, but it would be helpful for avoiding people constantly posting annoying crap ALL day long.

And yes, it would reset per day.
And could even be limited per forum.

Your opinions Community?

<<EDIT>>
It could also be applied to recently un-banned members, new members, or warned memebers.
Just posting ideas to see all sides.

Forums are meant for discussion, and to limit that would make no sense.

To prevent useless posting and abuse of the system.

Not by a lot, just enough to make people realize that stupid and pointless posts, or big arguments are a waste of thread space.

Another idea would be to limit those who have recent ban history, as to easy them back in, or an effect of a warning.
I'll update OP with the new info.

Unfortunately, the people who do this kind of thing would just make alt accounts to use once they hit the cap. Hell, a lot of these trolls already have alt accounts to use when they get banned from the forums as it is.

In the end, a daily post limit would probably hurt the people who abide by the rules far more than the ones who like to spam and make asses of themselves.

So what about people posting non-annoying things all day?

This. The system would be too unfair on members who do participate fairly in discussion.

Isn't there essentially a limit imposed by the anti-spam filter?

1 post/30 seconds = 2880 posts/24 hours

But if posts are on-topic I don't see a reason to limit those. If the posts are off-topic, then the moderators can step in if they choose to do so.

Nope. The only way I could see this happening is if it was somehow limited by title...

I'm a college dropout.

When I first read the OP my thoughts towards the idea were pretty negative, mainly because I think the justification you provided for the restriction isn't very good. I don't think it would encourage anyone to put time into individual posts because there's only so much you can comment on as a discussion progresses. If you tried to cover everything in one big post then people wouldn't be willing to read it and it would be more of a blog than a discussion. A good example of this is when people make overly large OP's and cover everything, so there's no reson for anyone to really even comment. You get a user invested into a topic through progression, not overwhelming them.

However, I do think that it might provide nice added incentive to not get banned if applied to recently banned users, as stated in your OP edit. In all honesty, I think it could also be applied to the title system as well. One of the main resons titles were put into place was to get users to invest time into one account rather than a bunch of alts. If you reward higher base titles with more posts per day then that gives more incentive to keep your current account, as well as to follow the rules to avoid a ban.

Of course someone might call me out for favoring the title rewards, but in my defence, I've always supported the idea that value should be placed upon titles.

But unless you're setting the base level really, really, really low there is just about zero incentive.

Ehh yeah, that's true. And the problem with that is new members might be driven away from the website unless the fact that they will be able to post more freely with a title promotion. We already know that's not an easy thing to do since we already have issues with people and the "Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not." message.

However, if you were able to find a happy medium between too low of a cap and too high of a cap, it might give some nice benefits. One way you'd be able to do this is add in more titles so there isn't a huge gap in time between title progression. It doesn't even need to be linear either, there could be larger gaps between tiles the higher you progress.

Obviously this is an idea in the rough, but I think if it was expanded upon it could find a place on Bungie.net.
