Subject: Post limit per day?

No, why put a limit?

To prevent useless posting and abuse of the system.
I guess you could just report people like that for spam, then they would receive a warning from a moderator.
That might help solve the problem.

Do you mean posting in threads or creating threads?

Isn't there essentially a limit imposed by the anti-spam filter?

1 post/30 seconds = 2880 posts/24 hours

But if posts are on-topic I don't see a reason to limit those. If the posts are off-topic, then the moderators can step in if they choose to do so.

However, I do think that it might provide nice added incentive to not get banned if applied to recently banned users, as stated in your OP edit. In all honesty, I think it could also be applied to the title system as well. One of the main resons titles were put into place was to get users to invest time into one account rather than a bunch of alts. If you reward higher base titles with more posts per day then that gives more incentive to keep your current account, as well as to follow the rules to avoid a ban.
But unless you're setting the base level really, really, really low there is just about zero incentive.
Ehh yeah, that's true. And the problem with that is new members might be driven away from the website unless the fact that they will be able to post more freely with a title promotion. We already know that's not an easy thing to do since we already have issues with people and the "Bungie is no longer managing the Halo Universe. While our Halo-related forums and stats remain available, be advised that "official" answers and support about the Halo Universe (past, present, or future) are not." message.

However, if you were able to find a happy medium between too low of a cap and too high of a cap, it might give some nice benefits. One way you'd be able to do this is add in more titles so there isn't a huge gap in time between title progression. It doesn't even need to be linear either, there could be larger gaps between tiles the higher you progress.

Obviously this is an idea in the rough, but I think if it was expanded upon it could find a place on Bungie.net.

This is what I was trying to do, just rough out an idea.

I like the idea of title restriction, but I think the point about new members feeling limited is also a vaild argument.

Maybe just an application to recently un-banned members only? at least until the system starts to become corfortable with the majority of the community?

No. The maximum amount of posts that will show is 300. But you can of course go beyond that. There is no cap because most people don't even reach a PPD of that high. I have only gotten my PPD at 300 once.

I don't see a point. People are usually banned for spamming the forums quite fast anyway.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

No, that would serve little to no purpose. Only slow activity on the forums. There shouldn't be restrictions.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

The limit should be set at two, one for their initial post and one to regard any replies. That should cover it.

OP, why do you think this is a good idea? Just wondering. I don't know where an ideology on posting like this would even come from..

The only thing a cap would to is prevent spamming and stop people from posting normally. The report button already deals with the only problem this would fix (spam), so a cap is not necessary.

To prevent useless posting and abuse of the system.
What you call useless and abuse may be called contribution by others. Subjective definitions shouldn't create restrictions.

If the posts are spam, we may want to restrict their posting. We have the report button for that.

I make 30-50 PPD. Most of this is actual contribution to discussion and a legitimate response to any given post or OP. Why would you limit that?

This idea seems very controversial. It seems like it would halt the spammers from... spamming, but it also seems like it would stop frequent forum posters (that actually post legitimate stuff) from posting.
