And I've got some things that need to be cleared up. Questions are kinda jumbled though.
The book is set within the 300 year Flood - Forerunner War, yes?
Why did it seem that the Forerunner didn't know much of the Flood? Didn't the war only last 300 years? How could you not noticed a parasitic race which was taking over worlds?
How did the Precursor leave Charum Hakkor and where did it go?
Mendicant Bias and a Halo ring went missing for 43 years. Was this when MB was contacted by the Gravemind? And he then took the Halo and attacked the capital when he returned?
I thought only one Halo made it through the portal, but when Bornstellar comes to, he sees six..? Was he knocked out long enough for the Ark to make replacements?
Where is the seventh ring?
I think that clears everything up. I literally only finished a few minutes ago. I'll give it another read soon, but it would be nice to get this cleared up before I do.

1. Yes. Though the flood existed well over 1000 years before, attacking human colonies.
2. The humans wiped out most of the initial wave of flood, unbeknownst to the forerunner. It wasn't until after decimating humanity that the forerunner found out about humanities dual war. They were completely aware of what was happening after that, which was why they considered creating both shield worlds and halo rings 1000 years before cryptum begins, since they seemed to know a flood return was inevitable. They couldn't create a cure, and thus the only solutions they had were way too extreme to tell the public. Everyone that mattered knew about the flood and what had to be done, but no one wanted it to come to that.
3. Medicant Bias and the Master Builder test fired a halo ring on charum hakkor. The firing weakened the prisoners cage, and seemingly it hopped onto the halo ring and medicant bias left with it on board. Not sure where it went, but it seemingly was what convinced Medicant Bias to betray the forerunner.
4. Yes, this was when MB was contacted by gravemind...or maybe the prisoner? Whether the prisoner and the gravemind are the same thing or not remains to be seen.
5. More may have made it through the portal, hard to be sure. The halo rings that were there maybe were already in production, maybe there was to be 18 total in the end.
6. I have a feeling primordium takes place on that seventh ring, and as such we'll find out then. It may have been floating in the debris field that the slipspace portal to the ark left behind.
