This is Sparta!!! eh I mean Reach ^^

ok, 343 has mentioned that in Halo 4 Master Chief will encounter
an ancient threat on that alien world and that in Halo CE Anniversary you will find many terminals with videos showing the past of the Forerunners.
I was thinking there can be only two: 1. The Flood 2. The Forerunners.....wait the Forerunners?
Weren't they described as peaceful, noble and highly civilized species? Yes, but when the novel Halo Cryptum came out it sheds new light into the Halo Universe.
First of all, humans were highly civilized in 150.000 years before the events of Human/Covenant war in the 26th century.
Maybe had even better technology than in the events of Halo.
The flood were defeated by mankind though not completely wiped out. but mankind and and the alien race of the later known Prophets were allies against the Forerunners who rivaled for the suremacy of the galaxy. But mankind got defeated and ribbed off from all their technologies and exiled to their home planet earth.
Now maybe we know why 1. the Covenant hate mankind that much 2. why the guilty spark calls the humans Reclaimer 3. why in Halo 4 you might fight the Forerunners.
As the Covenant praise the Forerunners like gods in the "present", it is natural that the arch enemy of them (mankind)are considered as the enemy of them too.
As humans are capable of space faring in the 26th century again and finally finding Forerunner structures in deep space, they are considred as reclaimers of the universe, as the Forerunners seem to be wiped out of the galaxy.
However, there still might be surviving Forerunners on one or more distant shield worlds and now Master Chief and Cortana accidently drifted to that world when the portal collapsed.

Yeah, and i think it is rather unlikely that we will fight against the flood again. I mean the Covenant and the Flood were already in at least 3 Halo games as your enemy.
I think it will be either the Forerunners or the Precursors who were even more advanced than the Forerunners. WHile the Forerunners are humanoid sentient beings very similar to humans (-blam!- sapiens), the Precursors are desribed as more alienated beings.

Yes, i read that too. It is possible that the Flood is a creation by the Precursors to take revenge on the Forerunners.
Just like the speculation that the Aliens (Xenomorph) would be created by the Space Jockeys to make terraforming and later became biological weapons. But all these are not official canon (yet) ^^

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.
