Subject: Glasslands trilogy connects to H4 so surely UNSC/ex covies are in H4

LOL what?

How can you jump to conclusions?

1) Glasslands is a story about human and Elite relations post Halo 3

2) All things connect from here on out

3) Master Chief's distance from the rest of civilization make anything less then a physical appearance by either one of them impossible for there to be resonant connections regarding anything to do with Glasslands and Halo 4.

In other words: nothing any of the others do will have any impact on the Chief's story at all unless they're actually present. Its simple math, not hard to grasp.

Here's a few things I don't uderstand myself, and do note I'm not for or against either side of the argument; there are pros and cons to both sides and I'm not advocating one over the other. I'm merely expressing what I don't get.

I don't get how a UNSC/Covenant(races) presence is not possible at all. Did any of you read the Glasslands trilogy? Did you play the Reclamer trilogy? Are you informed in anyway beyond what we currently know? Which is exactly: nothing?

People -blam!- about some of the theories, such as those about the Timeless One and such, being too "predictible" yet they conveniently seem to forget that Halo's story is complex and ever changing--with such change possibly allowing a UNSC/Covie(races) presence in Halo 4--whenever anyone mentions the UNSC could be in H4. Because the UNSC not being in Halo 4 is the predictable, less-complex path.

Here's a good question: why would 343i employ the talents of a very esteemed author in order to write a chronilogical prequel trilogy to Halo 4 so close to the release of the game....if not to create a bridge to Halo 4 that will relate to *wait for it* Halo 4? Especially when they say that this trilogy will all connect with *one more time* Halo 4.

Thats like saying the Gears of War Locust won't be in Gears of War 3 because the Locust was destroyed and we're fighting the Lambent now. I'm pretty sure Epic employed the talents of a highly esteemed author for that exact purpose. To explain why the Locust is still a threat even in the shadow of the Lambent.

So do tell me: tell me why the UNSC and Covenant(races) can't be in Halo 4 using citations from the Glasslands and Reclaimer trilogy. Because until you do, I call bull -blam!- on all the reasons as to why not.

Problem #647 with this forum: people assume they know the whole story, and consequently, assume they know more then anyone who suggests something that contradicts there beliefs; some go as far as to call others out on their percieved "idiocy."

So Roberto, in the same sense, tell us why the UNSC and Covenant can be in halo 4 using those references?

Raganok has a point, based off what information there is, and going with the theory of halo 4 being not long after halo 3, UNSC being there is simply unlikely.

OH HAI THAR!

Glasslands? What is this?

Please read my posts, please. It'll make life so much easier. I specifically said "I am not advocating either side." I have no opinion on the matter. Both sides have evidence, yours being the ass kicking both sides took and are therefore not likely to be going anywhere soon, the others' being the lost ship Everest, Cole and his girlfriend being near enough to hear the distress beacon to come find them.

And again, to your second line, we have literally nothing as to detail when or where we are in Halo 4. All "evidence" cannot be taken without a huge grain of salt. It is also all as good as the other guy's, so this constant back and forth nerd rage is no more then that: pointless bickering. I haven't seen a new argument either for or against the UNSC presence since the "why not" was written, only more examples of "well, the Everest!" followed by "read the why not!"

The main reason I called out the people siding with "not" was because A) the argument for why not is pure and utter speculation based entirely on guess work (to be fair, so is the "why yes") B) it does not explain how the Everest can not be there and C) they just happened to be the dominant people on this particular thread.

But by no means am I choosing a side.

as roberto said if theres links between grasslands and halo 4, then the unsc and/or sangheili have to be involved in halo 4 in some way.

I think its a disservice to the entire universe that's been created to think that they would, or to want them to create 3 full games that focus solely on master chief off fighting in some boondock corner of the universe. So even if for canon reasons master chief doesnt meet back up with the unsc, I could see them doing a concurrent story where you also play as a odst or something, and the stories tie in together in the end of 4 or even not till 6.

If you read Halo evolutions there was a story about someone who had the augmentations but never got the MJOLNIR armor.

Soren failed the Augmentation process. His body was so physically deformed that he was unable to be fit with MJOLNIR. That's why he was never fully indited to becoming a SPARTAN-II.

Either deformation happens, or you die.

The armor does not make you a Spartan, he was a Spartan but without armor.

Because I'm using logical reasons to not assert that UNSC or ex-Covenant being at Halo 4. It's logically impossible because short time. Three years and UNSC magically recovers? That's bull-blam!-, Roberto.

See the difference?

It would be acceptable for me and others if it is set in post 2610s. As seeing that Halo 4 isn't that far in the future, we can assure that it is illogical for UNSC/Ex-Covenant at Halo 4.

Except for the abundance of non canon related evidence.

LOL what?

How can you jump to conclusions? Glasslands having some related contents with Halo 4 does not make it that UNSC/Covenant "magically" appear despite still suffering from the aftermath of Human-Covenant War.

And I already explained how it is illogical for UNSC or "non-existant Covenant" to appear at Halo 4 at other thread!

In other words, I doubt that UNSC/Covenant are at Halo 4. Maybe 5 or 6.

It's way too early for them to come back if it's set in 2560s. They can come back if ONLY it's SET IN 2600s.

From all we've seen so far I think it's rather clear that the UNSC and former Covenant client races will be appearing in some fashion will make some sort of appearance in Halo 4, and the chances of them playing a major role in the rest of the trilogy is even more certain. I don't think the OP is jumping to any sort of conclusion. 343i has clearly stated that Glasslands will be laying down themes that connect to Halo 4, and what's Glasslands about? Huh, what do you know, it's primarily about the UNSC and their relations with the Elites. What themes could a story all about the after affects of the Human-Covenant War really have that would connect in any truly meaningful way to Halo 4?

The only way having UNSC or Covenant forces in Halo 4 would be illogical is if either one just showed up wherever Chief was without any sort of explanation ever being given at all, which we both know 343i would not do.

There is no concrete set of dates associated with the Reclaimer Trilogy, 343i could have Master Chief and Cortana return whenever they wanted to really. If you're trying to use the dates listed in the Encyclopedia again, then don't, the Believe ad campaign and most if not all of the information it contains is non-canon. And just because the Encyclopedia lists it does not mean it is completely and totally 100% canon. The Halo Visual Guide contains information on the Multiplayer maps from throughout the Halo series, and we all know that those aren't really canon. So just because it's in the Encyclopedia or Visual Guide doesn't mean that it's reliable information.

a little off topic: how do you FAIL from being a S-II cadidate, and not be dead? that or memories erased, either way...

You can be physically disabled, spartan II augmentations don't always kill you or affect your memory. But about this failed S-II candidate in glasslands I have no idea.

If you read Halo evolutions there was a story about someone who had the augmentations but never got the MJOLNIR armor.

Or, the augmentations could have just not worked... didn't take effect, so he never became better/faster/stronger what have you.

The washout in Glasslands is actually a she, her name is Sarah Osman, and she's the protege of sort to Margaret Parangosky, you know, the head of ONI and only the scariest old hag to ever grace sci-fi :P We'll probably find out why Sarah was rejected from the SII project once the book comes out.

Not all Spartan II failures turned out dead. Some of them were injured or paralyzed to the point where they couldn't keep up with the training. Most of these candidates ended up getting jobs at ONI(they had knowledge of what was then classified information).

OT: Like I said, most surviving candidates that didn't succeed probably won't be able actively participate in the front lines again.

I, personally, am hoping for something new in regards to allies/enemies. UNSC/Covie species? Been there, done that, want something else now.

I also would be one of those that would think 'WTF' if the UNSC and/or Sangheili show up right at the start of Halo 4, without a damn good reason! A logical, acceptable reason for such an apparance depends on a number of factors we just don't know yet:

- How long has Chief been asleep (this is a big one to me, as time can influance other factors)
- Where Chief/Cortant is (all we know from the Cortana documentary on Waypoint is that they are in an 'unknown' part of the galaxy).
- The artifact at Voi (and whether or not a keyship is required to active its other functions)
- State of the relationship between Human/Sangheili/other covie species (Glasslands will likely cover the Human/Sangheili part)
- What goes on during Halo 4 itself

Depending on those factors, I can accept UNSC/Sangheili presence at some point in the new trilogy: the longer it takes for them to show up, the more acceptable (to me) it becomes. And again, depending on the factors mentioned above, I can grow to accept why UNSC/Sangheili forces show up at the start of Halo 4 as well.
