I'm trying to find the Marathon Story on the internet, and I was wondering if anyone has a link to one, and if possible one that on one page, because I want to print it out, so I can sort of read it like a book. Thnx

That link doesn't really give you the full story though. I want the whole thing, spoilers and all. Is there site like that?

So is the Marathon series ended or unended? Because there's a possibility that bungie makes a new one for the Xbox, after being done with Halo 2. Think about it, if they don't make Halo 3, what else would they do. I also think they should port the Marathon series to the Xbox for those people that would like to try them, without buying a Mac or standing the horrible graphics (no offense).

The greatest colaboration of gaming story and info in existence I believe...

"Nobody can be told what Marathon is... they have to experience it for themselves..."

EDIT- in the eyes of Bungie, they are done with marathon... to redo it or make another game is as the description follows.
"There is a painting of a great white stallion, as perfect as can be created on earth. There is a ring of men standing around it in cowled robes, each carrying a large sharpened stick. These men are beating, stabbing, poking and hitting the stallion. Blood is flying everywhere as the stallion enters it's death throes. This painting is called Marathon 4."

The Marathon series is one of the best (the best, in my opinion) series of computer games ever made. It has a detailed epic sci-fi story which is extremely complex. The Marathon Story site (the site SurgeK linked you to and listed in my sig) is the 10 year collaboration of every piece of knowledge pertaining to the Marathon series, no matter how obscure. That is why it is such a complex site.

Here is brief one page synopsis of Marathon and Marathon 2 listed on the site. It is a decent place to begin. After that, I would recommend starting with level 1 of Marathon (Arival) and reading the terminals, which are listed in order on the marathon story site.

Better yet, you could check out the sticky link in The Underground and download AlephOne and play Marathon. If you must have better graphics, download the texture enhancement packs, which offer high resolution replacements for all of the wall, cieling, and floor textures. The Hi Res textures make the game extremely pleasing to the eyes.

As Gaara of Sand said, in Bungie's eyes, Marathon is complete. Bungie is not a company that moves backwards or does the same thing twice, so I wouldn't hold my breath for an Xbox version of any Marathon game if I were you.

If you are looking for an unparalleled imersive gaming experience, Marathon is it.

Yeah, but how hard would it be to just port it, and maybe even put hi-res visuals on it like that mod. Oh yeah, someone said that you could download the games, where are they? I downloaded a demo, and it seems like it was a good game, but I'm sorry, but I really can't enjoy a game without good visuals. Where is the high res visuals (the mod, or the plug-in) thing 2?

Here is the link to the site from which you can download AlephOne.

If you have any problems installing, here is a link to the forum thread How to play Marathon on your PC: A Detailed Guide.

Finally, here is a link to the texture enhancement packs.

AWESOME!! Thanks a lot! My question is though, why do they let people download it? Anyway, I'm downloading the high res textures right now. LoL it's gonna take longer then the game itself. How do you put the high-res textures on anyway? I mean I know I haven't even downloaded them yet, but I always have trouble with plug-ins, so I thought I should just ask now.

It's a 10yr old game, one of the best ever produced... and because it's a mac game the majority of people haven't been able to ever play it, so Bungie made it freely downloadable with the Aleph program that lets it work on windows, they also made Marathon 2:Durandal free... I don't remember the site but it's fine to download anytime.

Okay, I think I finally got it working. I had to download it like 3 times, because I didn't know it couldn't run full screen. Oh yeah, I heard that you can play co-op in Marathon, can you do that on AelphOne? If you can, how would you do that?

If I was sure of that I'd be doing it... The original worked via LAN but I can't get it to work that way. And Aleph One has supposedly added internet play as well.
You may try stosh's sticky at the top of the Underground but I don't know if that'll be useful at all.

Why the heck does ForceMorph hate Halo so much? Does anyone know? Because Halo is such a great game, the best one out right now. I can understand if you guys say that Marathon had a better story, or was better for the time, but how can you first of all say that Halo is a bad game, and then say that Marathon is just better, I don't know. What do you think Gaara of Sand? What's your opinion on that?

Well in my opinion Marathon is better than Halo as well... and there are a few other games made recently or at the same time as Halo that I think beat it as well. BUT...

ForceMorph like a fair few of us finds that Halo doesn't measure up as a Bungie game... due to teh *ahem* takeover it was rushed to completion and left out some of the stuff they wanted and as such is not the game it would have been. Marathon is a game they worked to perfection, however due to teh increase in members based around Halo, the more "oldschool" game fans have kinda been shafted. It is hard to get a good thread going without it being spammed with "I LVOE HALO!! HALO ROX!!!" or needing to dig for it everyday due to all the new Halo based topics landing on top. So to a major degree it is the fancore of Halo that makes us so upset.
So there you have 2 points- We believe Halo isn't the best (and the majority of people, obviously yourself included have difficulty understanding that) and the fancore has spoiled it for us...
The 3rd reason... I remember him saying somehwere that balance was needed in the forums. So he is the counterweight to the Halo madness... He kinda takes everything to the extreme.

What I have just said is also kind of an exageration of sorts though... he's a champ, and it sounds like I'm vilifying him (however that word is spelt). Theres nothing wrong with having an opinion, just provided you don't force it on people... the only fault in that point is when people say things like emptyevergreen "Halo is teh only good game Bungie has ever made!"

It's times like that when alot of us directly oppose people and, to an extent, force opinions back on people. Another guy posted saying Oni was the worst game he'd ever played, and whilest I've never played it, I backed up those who had because saying outrageous things about Bungie games(on a Bungie forum!!!!) just isn't on.

I hope I've made some sense of the matter...
Tristan ;-)

NOTE-
but how can you first of all say that Halo is a bad game, and then say that Marathon is just better
Unlike the majority of people on the forum we don't just state an opinion... we always back it up with facts ;-)

Okay, then what games are better then Halo? Because honestly I really can't think any game where I have almost 1000 hours on, and I'm still excited about playing it 4 vs. 4.

Well you now seem to be focusing your entire opinion only on games with multiplayer so my slected games may not all apply to you.
Halflife- and all it's mods (many 1000's of hours spent playing Counterstrike)

Prince of Persia- All four of them, but particularly Sands of Time... (and btw I'm more eagerly awaiting the poorly titled Prince of Persia 2 than I am Halo 2) No Multiplay

Soul Calibur 2- Probably the best fighting game on the market. 2-player multiplay

Marathon- I don't believe I need to explain that one... 8 player multiplay

Sudeki- kept me occupied far longer than Halo single player ever did... good for a laugh and very original style of gameplay. No multiplay

Ummm... thats all I can remember for the moment... but as you can see, it's not "THE BEST GAME IN DA OONIVERZE" in my opinion :P

Tristan ;-)

EDIT- I just red through Recon's post and am worried I sound anti-Halo... I do play it and it is fun... just not the best.
