I'm starting to think glasslands chapter 1 has made him nerd-rage so much that he's turning into a troll.
The more I read your posts the more ironic this sentence becomes. I am not entirely sure what annoys me the most, 343 Industries' lack of originality or the slowness of this community. Probably both are contributing to my severly jaded attitude towards this franchise as of late.
You already know my reasons for disliking Glasslands. The very backbone of the plot is horrible - Giving the same old Elites and their pathetic views even more point of view, having ONI initiate a secret war with the Sangheili, having the Sangheili still, for some reason I don't know of, still treat Humans as completely inferior, still have anything more than a splinter group of fanatics still believe in the Forerunners. If this is the backbone, the novel's very foundations, then how bad are the particulars?
Moving on to Halo 4: The Master Chief failed as a character. I no longer care about him (I never did to be honest). They can tack on whatever they like in this trilogy to make it look not quite so bad, but it is just spurious attempts to patch up a sinking ship.
The unlikeliness of the UNSC, or anything that roots us to the familiarity of what we know Halo to be just now, appearing in the new trilogy will make the plot feel trivial. You can throw around the words "Threat to the entire universe" all you want but without a solid emotional impact it will be completely underwhelming. Who cares what happens to aliens that you have never seen before and have no prior resonance with, or to inanimate planets and stars? How is Master Chief supposed to know what he is fighting for if there is no reminders of that anywhere near him? And then there is all the unfinished tales from the old trilogy which I listed near to the end of Grey's thread. Reading about it in a novel is all very well and good, but not when you have been wondering what the scenario looks like after 4 years. We don't want to read it, we kinda want to see it.
Actually, I tell a lie. It is probably more to do with the morons in this community, or this forum, putting me off it all. The idea that the UNSC/Sangheili will not be appearing in Halo 4 is by no means a guarantee, yet it is thrown around by people here as if it is some scriptural law or some -blam!- like that. So, you don't want UNSC/whatever in Halo 4, then enjoy your slice of the mediocrity cake.

Also, I don't think that Master Chief is death sentence to new trilogy as long they don't include UNSC/Covenant and keep Forerunners and Precursor in, then it would be very interesting trilogy.
What? That is a complete non-sequitur. And the very reasons you state is the reason why it is going to feel so underwhelming. Why should I care whether John succeeds or fails if that is truly the case?
