Subject: So we all geniuses around here??

Bip Bap Bam in the brainpan!

I don't know about you guys, but I think that pretty much any people or companies that makes video games are geniuses. Think about all that goes into a video game (good, bad, or indifferent), the massive amounts of code that it takes to generate a map with 12 players all playing at once. The stories in the campaigns that we play all have to come from someones thick head. The artists spend HOURS drawing, creating, and thinking up the environments we all enjoy so much. Why do we like Master Chief so much? or Noble Team? Because of the way they act, the effort that people make to create a great game.

When people tell me that video game creaters are people with no lives, that they're just a bunch of lazy idiots who have lost all connections with the real world, I get kinda mad...

Cause you know, it takes massive amounts of time, patience, skill, and brains to create great games. So even if Activision/Treyarch's COD franchise sucks, i still respect em for putting forth effort, and i still respect em for how much it takes to create a game in the first place. Bungie's in the same boat... except their games haven't sucked for the most part.

Key

I'm a genius. My mom tells me all the time...

Edit: Yes, I read the OP, just felt I needed to say that.

Great DAY

Haha, you are absolutely right, this has been stuck in my mind since age 12. Just the action of throwing a grenade in Halo probably took, well a -blam!--load of code.

Every time I play halo or any another video game, I would just be like "how does that work?" I barely even focus on the game I'm just fascinated on how everything is working and how they did it.

Yea, Reach's forge mode gave me a glimpse you could say, but its still nothing close to the real thing. But I actually pay attention during the game. I don't really think about it until later on when im not on Xbox or when i just have some time to myself.

Hello! You may also know me as Ijnekono. How you have made your way here I do not know, but welcome. (:

Darn, I must learn C++ so I can conceptualize this stuff... I have little time, but I think with some motivation I can stop playing Minecraft and get to work. God, why am I wasting time playing Minecraft when I could be learning C++? I am retarted sometimes.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

It annoys me when somebody picks up a game and instantly says "I want to grow up to be a game designer!" It definitely depends on what part of the industry you go into but it's serious -blam!-. Everyone in the gaming industry should be greatly respected.

I understand nothing because my life is a conspiracy.

The only problem is Treyarch doesn't make a new engine every time they make their next "big" game.

I really don't like it when I hear people talk badly about these game companies because they are so arrogant as to what they really do.

Forge gives a glimpse of how tagging and identifying objectives, layouts, or influences work. It doesn't show what goes on behind the scenes. XD

Thats what i mean, how different objects or things in a map can influence the gameplay greatly.

Because it's easy to pump out engines in a 2 year dev cycle.

The people the games industry are incredibly smart, and incredibly dedicated.

Video Game Programers make the coolest -blam!-.

  • 09.11.2011 1:51 PM PDT

I'm not, in any way, trying to minimize the dedication of and hard work done by video game developers, but there are a lot of jobs out there that require smarts and persistence.

That being said, I agree that people who try and degrade developers are a bit... wrong, lol. We, as consumers, just look at the end product, but we hardly ever stop to think of just what it took to make this video game. Sometimes, it can put into perspective what you didn't realize were petty complaints.

I agree, with the fact that we almost never look at how hard it is to make a game, but also with the fact that there are a lot of other jobs that requrie smarts, persistance and dedication. It's another reason why i frikin love gaming so much. because of how many cool experiences i've had with friends and family because of effort by game developers.
