So today after I tried to join a group I was told that I couldn't because I wasn't allowed to be in more than 25 groups at a time.

I've been thinking about it, and I really can't come up with a real reason why this would be limited. So is there an official explanation as to why it's so?

The real question is.. Why do you need to join more then 25 groups?

How many groups are you an active member of?

Touché.

But still. It's a bit annoying because every now and then I go through the groups I've joined for information. Sure, there are a few that I could leave, but that doesn't change my question, nonetheless.

I'm sure if someone wanted to, they could.

This question isn't necessarily targeted for me. I'm just curious.

I'd like to be half-man half-tree in an octopus' garden in the shade.

Just because it's difficult to be active in 25 groups doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to be a member of more than 25 groups. Nor should it be a requirement to be active in a group to be a member.

My guess is that they set the limit at some random number they thought nobody would reach back when the groups were used to set up local LAN parties. It's probably not even worth the effort required by the webteam to increase the number of groups we can be a part of, though, so I doubt we'll ever see the number rise.
