I completely disagree with this rule, like it was said previously, it honestly doesnt take a genius to figure out what -blam!- word im using. Using stars to cover most, if not all of the letters, is exactly the same as using -blam!- instead.

What is the difference? You're swapping one set of censoring for another, at least your not trying to bypass the filter in a negative way. Using stars shows that you are minding your language, and that you care about abiding by the rules of the forum.

he didn't use an alt code, he just used the popular internet slang term for the word.

Then that is even more stupid...

I agree.

I mean, Recon Number 54 turned into an angry child when confronted about actually bypassing the filter. When he used internet slang, then he bans himself?

Not really, no. Most of the time the word could be multiple things. Rather, using asterisks is more of a conniving way to get your exact point across.

Rather, you're a little -blam!- looking to cause trouble.

Dead Mans Hand-Always Loaded.

I WAS SOCK

Seems... like an iffy situation. How exactly was it self-censored? Like... if it was something like f********** (moar stars just in-case lol), that seems fine imo, but if it was something more like s**it (sphit obviously), I completely understand why its ban-worthy.

On a side note though, why take the effort to use *'s when the system will just blam it for you?

What about in the scenario where I used all **** then? What would be the moderation in that instance?

I'm not a moderator, so I have no idea. However, why bother doing that when you can just let -blam!- take care of it? I really see no purpose to putting asterisks in unless there is some kind of ulterior motive.

Mods just need to be less douche bags when it comes to this rule. Be reasonable, he didn't say the word, he didn't do anything disruptive, he was just clarifying what he said.
In context, the -blam!- filter leaves almost nothing to the imagination.

I'd almost guarantee nothing would have been done if someone didn't make a huge fuss over the use of dick in a thread.

I view it more as personal preference and old habits. A lot of the boards I use to go to, like way back in 05, did not use any kind of word filtering system, and using stars to get a point across was perfectly acceptable to me. To be quite honest, even to this day BNET remains the only board i go to that has a word filter. In the end it's all up the ninjas discretion, and I think it should be moderated accordingly based on the situation and usage of the word. Personally I wouldnt go overboard, banning everyone who used it, maybe a warning at most if it was used casually.

- Dawes, A little bit of everything

I am so -blam!-ing fed up with that. Now, I typed -blam!- myself, is that considered bypassing the filter? I think it's obvious what I meant, but I censored myself.

Censoring oneself should not be considered bypassing the filter. The moderators should not start acting so childishly after the -blam!-ing idiots of the Flood -blam!-ed about it.

NOTE: All -blam!-'s in this post were typed by me.

You missed the point, typing -blam!- your self is different than putting stars. If you put stars anyone can figure out what you meant. if you type -blam!- nobody knows.

It is the insinuation that is the crime.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Actually you can pretty much figure out what the were saying. Leaving one letter in with stars just gets you a little closer.

All counter-arguments to evolution are based on a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

Wait...there are actually people here who agree that a letter followed by stars is offensive and should be bannable, just because the reader can infer what it means?

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

It's not. I think some people just feel like they have something to prove.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I believe because it's easier to understand out of context what the word is when you have the first letter and number of letters in it than simply -blam!-.
