OT: meh. Its a ban on an Internet forum. Everyone will get over it.

More importantly, I think its high time to get rid of the blam filter all together. Because of it, the stupid "blame stosh" meme has overtaken Stoshisms as the primary Stosh related hilarious screw up meme.

Don't be use -blam!- is not correct. It, along with all the other incidences of intense banality due to a completely uneeded profanity filter need to be done away with. As is the point of this thread, a user's ability to bypass it is so readily apparent that kind of bypassing it via self-censoring is now an issue again.

No more ban filter = no more of this crap. As with now, if people overdo it, a moderator can still take care of it should they decide to. Its true that it will probably cause some more "i got banned for saying -blam!- while no one else gets banned for it" whining, but look at the beginning of this post. Meh to being banned on an internet forum.

I just really think the -blam!- filter needs to be revamped altogether (start with George Carlin's seven dirty words and increase as necessary), but I don't know when or if that will ever happen.
The -blam!- filter works fine. The problem is that moderators each have their own arbitrary standards of how they moderate mild offenses of evading the filter. It further confuses the members when moderators themselves evade it and then a moderator proceeds to ban somebody for the same offense a moderator commits.

You guys need to meet at Foman's mom's house and come up with a specific standard on how this rule will be enforced. When each moderator has a different view of things it causes confusion of what is and isn't allowed.

They wouldn't get anything done at Foman's mom's house.

I have a really easy solution. Don't ever try to avoid it and you will have absolutely no problem. Seriously, if you ever think that you might be banned for it, then don't try it if you aren't ready to receive a ban. I really don't understand some of you people. And please stop using an overused meme...

I want an optional filter, like in many MMO's... If only, if only.

That would actually be a fairly easy way to fix this "problem."

And now, a meta-response:

Bull-blam!-.

You all know what's under the filter as the content preceding it clearly identifies the intention, exactly as with the incident in the OP, and yet, the rule has not been broken.

That makes it a really -blam!- stupid rule.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I bypass stuff by spelling out blam, that is what is used and I still don't have to type the blammin swear word.

I believe he was referring to this thread, wherein Recon banned himself.

Not trying to argue, i'm looking for clarification.

The Flood asked for this rule to be imposed?

I'm sure you've heard about all "Recon is banned! What?!?!?" crap. It all has to do with him posting a legitimate thread in the Flood on a news article and for it to make sense he used an alt code to bypass the filter so it made sense to people. Someone, then "requested" that Recon be banned for breaking the rules.

However, I'm sure you already knew all of that... So, why are you asking?
I knew he was banned, didn't know much behind it though. I haven't been in the mains/on bnet as much lately. lol

Moderator Response: The rules state that you should not bypass the profanity filter. Placing special characters in words so -blam!- doesn't come up is considered bypassing the profanity filter (the same can be said by putting @ in "-blam!-" so it doesn't get censored... and yes, I know that will end up being censored and therefore a pointless example). bobcast did what was within his rights as a moderator of Bungie.net.
Gotcha. With everyone saying 'it's easier to infer'... Most of the time when i see blam in specific phrases... I pretty much infer whatever makes the most sense. but whatever

If it hasn't already been mentioned, maybe you should just PM bobcast and see if he wouldn't mind giving you an explanation. Of course, he doesn't have to explain why another member has been banned (banned/banner confidentiality and all... right?).

Personal Response: Meh.
I wasn't really directing it towards bobcast, so i guess using the quote in the OP was a bad idea. Either way, it was just a general question about self censorship and why it's against the rules.

I can see where placing an @ rather than an A is bypassing, seeing as though it shows the full word... but putting the first letter with ******* doesn't make sense to me.

Rewind back a few months as well, i posted a thread about a CD titled "Awesome as [Letter***]". The CD was literally titled that, so was it entirely fair that i was warned for posting a CD title, unintentionally "bypassing" the filter?

I don't care, but it's the same thing that we're talking about now.

Thanks for the respond, DMB

I breathe BR, not kidding homie.

woah..why isnt drummer mythic anymore?

but yea, this is pretty stupid tbh- just looks like another mod singling somebody out over something that is clearly not outlined enough in the rules to make it common knowledge that by censoring your own ___blank will get you banned.

Just an Average Joe...

You kids have a lot of time on your hands.

And for the record, who gives a -blam!-? I can see favor for both sides of the arguments, but how often are stupid, petty, insignificant and sometimes childish arguments settled over the Internet? Oh yeah... Never.
