Hi every1 I was just wondering what's a ping for? Is it a rating or something like it?

First off, please check out the guides thread. Second, the poll is pretty stupid, you don't need to make one for every question you ask. Third, a ping number is not a rating, but displays the time in seconds it takes for your computer to send and recieve information to/from the game server. If you live farther away from a server, chances are your ping is higher and will lag more. Hope that helps.

Ping is the time it takes for the computers to "talk" to one another. For example, a high ping can be caused when the computer is far away, or when it describes a complex or dynamic situation, while a low ping is usually because the computer doesn't have to describe too much or is relatively close to the server.

Let's put it this way. It's easier to describe to someone a MC walking through Bloodgulch in a straight line than it is to describe several MCs strafing, jumping, using the ground for cover, and firing at each other. This results in lag, when the computer isn't able to describe all of it on time (because of distance), or when the computer can't "say it all at once" (in other words, bandwidth too small).
