Subject: Should a warning really take away your title?

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Is it really fair that a warning takes away your title? I agree that a ban should, but is it really necessary if you just got a warning? I know the typical response is probably going to be, "since when did member titles matter?" But, I just find it sort of frustrating how one warning can lead to your title being taken away. If you're active enough to have that title and are "consistently active", which is how you reach the title...isn't it a bit harsh that one mistake can take it away? I mean, we're human. We make mistakes. But, should that one mistake result in your title being taken away? Especially when somebody is a dedicated member and has earned the right for that title?

I even find warnings unnecessary. Just ban them!

If it isn't that big of a deal then why not let them keep their title?

  • 09.12.2011 1:43 PM PDT

Indeed.

They're just titles, guys. I'm a regular member, and I couldn't care less, except for the fact that my posts are often undervalued due to my title.

Thus I refute thee

Post this in the titles thread and you might find some better answer there :)

The person who got warned broke the rules. They should be punished otherwise they would just get used to getting away with things.
Titles are a good way to do this without actually blacklisting the user from the website for something that is not very severe.

Alas, titles do not matter. Don't take it too seriously.

It isn't, but I don't think we are doing enough.

We should have a set of titles to mark those who are shamed to set them apart from standard members.

Examples:
"Shamed Member"
"Exiled Member"
"Peon"

Warnings lead to bans. So, you cannot say that people would get used to getting away with things since they'll end up getting banned. I'm just saying that a warning should be exactly what it means - a warning. Then, once you get banned, your title is lost. I don't think people should have their title taken away because of one lousy mistake that resulted in a warning.

Anyways, to reiterate my suggestion:

"Shamed Member"
"Exiled Member"
"Peon"

Other Examples: (New)
"Banned Member"
"Untouched Member"
"Troll" (semi-joke)
"shady member"
