Subject: Halo glasslands first chapter DISCUSSION

I would post this in the other topic, but it seemed to have poofed, so forgive me if this really doesn't belong here.

In regards to folks that think any Sangheili still believing in the Great Journey is stupid, they seem to forget an actual in-game represtation of this: Tartarus.

Tartarus was told flat out by Guilty Spark that the rings killed people, not ascend them to godhood, yet he choose to deny it and go ahead with the ring activation anyway. Thel, in contrast, accepted the truth and now doesn't believe in the Great Journey at all (which is why Telcam apparently think's he's a traitor and wants him dead). Yes, Tartarus is a different specices than Thel, but that doesn't detract from the point.

When someone's faith is something is so strong, they can deny, even be completely blind to, evidence to the contray even when it is waving right in front of their faces with a big neon sign! There is even examples of this in our own species today: for instance, there are still people out there that think the Earth is flat!

So that there are some Sangheili that still believe post-Halo 3 is not 'stupid' or 'farfetched'. People will cling to what they know and feel comfortable with and tbh, Sangheili have a lot bigger problems than who believes what. Granted, the differences in faith (or lack of) is likely to drive the Sangheili to civil war anyway...with or without ONI's meddling.

Speaking of ONI, I admit I really don't like what it sounds like they are doing. The Sangheili are in enough trouble as is with their lack of scientists and whatnot, not to mention the forementioned likelyhood of civil war over the faith issue. They really don't need ONI messing with them and making things worse (not to mention the risk of the Sangheili finding out it was the humans edging things along).

And the thing about making a deal to have Thel killed? It wasn't clear from the summery if they accepted it or not, but either way it would be very stupid imo for them to do it. Wasn't Thel basically the champion of the alliance between the two species? Wasn't it Thel that convinced Rtas to not glass all of Earth? It's clear to me that Thel want's to keep things amiable between the two species...and you don't go stabbing such a guy in the back!

I hope Thel survives these -blam!-s :(

He's survived an assasination attempt before (1 against 3 no less) he'll survive this.

I like the way Karen's writing this one. Instead of ALL the Elites being stoic in their faith, they've splintered into sub-factions. And @Spartan 100, I believe ONI will side with Thel, mainly because he's the most powerful, in both political and military might. And he's helped us before, so he knows how we work (at least better then non-conformist Elites).

And I like the Elites a lot; if ONI destroys them (completely) -blam!- will be flipped.

Anton seems to attack me again... If these were on the waypoint forums this would be dealt with. I'd ask you guys to deal with him too but these are the bungie.net forums.

Anyways, Roberto, I like elites too and I agree that they will, in the end, support Thel.
It's just so scary to think that this organization is not only controlling human affairs but alien affairs! It's scaryingly awesome. If you know what I mean. Just fascinating!

Poor Elites. Life was so merry being a religious zealot, and even a revenge crazed fighting machine when they were hunting down the Covenant's fragments. Now that that is over with they must be like "Wtf do we do now?"

Agreed. ONI is the ultimate moral grey area: doing what is necessary for the good of humanity but in the process ruining lives and in this case, civilizations.

Perhaps Karen's making us hate ONI deliberately. They may yet prove to be an antagonist.

I like the sound of this novel, even though I'm not a huge fan of Traviss. It'll be interesting to see what she brings to the Halo universe, though.

When's it out?

So this was fake, right?

I picked up the October issue of OXM today, and while there's a 20-page spread on Halo, there is no mention of Glasslands.

I thought so.

I've googled it left and right and I still couldn't find anything remotely close this. Eh, guess we'll have to wait for it to come out.

No there was a Halo Special Edition of OXM and that is where it is.

I like to play video games as much as possible, however I don't have live at my house so I have to go to a friends to play. Therefore I am not on LIVE very often. I also wieght lift, ride horses, Kayak, and Surf. I also think that the original Halo: CE is the best game out of all of them.

Is it known whether or not anybody is aware that CPO Mendez, Halsey, and the others are trapped in the Sphere?

I think they're propping up ONI to be the new major antagonist.

At least with the book out now, we can explain the change in armor on MC in H4. Its said that nanites constantly change and upgrade a spartans armor while they are in cryo, and with cortana lending a hand with new info (maybe) its definitly one explaniation.
