I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?
I really don't want to go any further with these arguments revolving around the title system but it seems like there are multiple views of what titles stand for. What they mean. What they show to the community. So, let's redefine what the system is all about, shall we?
The Bungie.net title system is viewed as an elitist "food chain". Mythic > Legendary > Heroic > Member. Right? Now, take this idea, crumble it up and toss it in the fire place. That idea is on the whole other end of the spectrum and was never intended.
The Bungie.net title system is used to show account age, activity, trust, and clean posting history. NOTHING MORE. Is this so hard to understand?
When you complain about about a member with a higher title, you are essentially complaining that they have been here longer than you, they post more than you, or they have been banned less times than you have.
When a Mythic or Legendary member posts or replies giving a different opinion or letting you know you are mistaken in whatever the discussion might be, whatever he or she is saying is just as equal in relevance to whatever a Heroic or regular member has to say. Sure, Mythic and Legendary members have probably been around a bit longer and might have a sturdier understanding of how things work, but they are in no way higher, better, or more important.
Now, elitism is a problem. Aggressive behavior can lead to discipline in the form of a ban. A moderator will take no hesitation in banning a Mythic member just as easily as a normal member. If anything, Mythic and Legendary members should be more heavily scrutinized by moderators.
My question is this: Why do blue bars offend those without. If anything, it should be something to work towards, not argue and whine about. Anyone can obtain any title, period. It isn't impossible. Those who refuse to abide by the rule have no room to complain.
NOTE: It is called the "TITLE" system, not the "RANKING" system.
In case anyone is wondering, Mythic members have NO special capabilities. You DO NOT receive a congratulatory message from the webteam. You DO NOT gain any special moderating powers on the forums. You DO NOT gain access to anything secret or special.
Achronos has stated the plausible demise of the title system due to all the complaining, all the unnecessary whining, and the constant amount of problems people create due to titles. I can positively state this for 80% of the B.net community: Don't take titles away. Some of us have been around long enough to know what it's like for everyone to be regular members. Everyone was excited when titles were announced.
Now, if you want one of the only distinguishing features taken away, keep complaining. But think about this; is your reason to complain about a title a legitimate reason or are you whining due to jealousy over a title bar?
I will close my thread repeating something I mentioned above: When you complain about about a member with a higher title, you are essentially complaining that they have been here longer than you, they post more than you, or they have been banned less times than you have.
