Im not sure i understand you. Are you trying to say that having worse ai is a good thing?
And how are the Reach ai cheap?
Please elaborateBy newer AI, I also included Halo 2. Besides, nearly all Halo AI are terrible. It's the fact that CE AI don't have that many cheap gimmicks and are capable of getting kills without them that makes me say CE AI is excellent.
Alright, but beware, my rants are very long and are based on observation (except H2 AI, I haven't played it enough to comment on them but I've seen them enough to know that they are somewhat smart).
Reach Jackal cons:
-overcharge their plasma pistols way too fast whereas it takes the player too long to overcharge the plasma pistol
-never run out of plasma pistol charge. I actually liked having pet jackals. It added realism
-can shoot immediately after overcharging their plasma pistols whereas, needless to say, the player can't shoot immediately after releasing a overcharged bolt
-have cheap shields with only one firing hole that wasn't present in CE
-shields reappear too fast
-have unnatural resistance to frag grenades
-shield can withstand two melees from the player despite him being a Spartan III
-rarely attempt to dive from grenades
H3 Jackal cons:
-dive from grenades like a boss
-unrealistic dive from grenade animation. They do it too fast
Now onto the Elites.
CE and Reach Elite comparison
Reach Elites:
-noticeably abnormal health even on lower difficulties. A major can take 1-2 melees after his shield is down
-way too fast melee
-the way they fire their plasma rifle is unbelievable. Instead of firing them in straight lines, the projectiles are like a fork
-concussion rifle wielders have horrible tracking on airborne enemies
-when Elites fire the concussion rifle, the projectile is noticeably faster and has force. When I fire it, it's slow, lacks force, and hardly does any damage
-they know where you are
-they're always moving (this is a good thing I guess)
-shield stun is too short so within 5 seconds of taking out their shield, their shield recharges
CE Elites:
-their melee range was quite big (up to H3) so it was difficult to go around and assassinate them
-their berserking didn't last as long as it did in Reach so you couldn't go around and assassinate them like you can do in Reach
-they had believable shield recharge rate, shield stun, health, speed, etc.
-they could actually be surprised
-Zealots could leap and weren't like this Elite. Even H2 Elites could have hit that guy
Finally, general AI comparison.
CE AI: realistic
Reach AI: cheap, ugly, not fun. Sure H3 Brute Chieftains had grenade deflecting power shields and H2 Ultra Elites had op shields, but at least they were fun to fight. Grunts with helmets, Elites with less shield stun, Jackals with cheap shields. It seems Hunters were the only ones that were improved in this game.
Fortunately, I can get past the Concussion Rifle and DMR problems by using a reload glitch that does exist in Reach so it isn't that bad. But I'll never be able to play this game longer than 1-2 hours.
H2 AI: competent
H3 AI: improved H2 AI. They implemented H2's Armory skull in H3 to some extent yet it doesn't return in Reach. It's quite difficult to assassinate all of those Brutes because they actually notice their fallen.
I just typed the following and put it in quotes for reading convenience. I didn't copy and paste in anyway. This is all from memory.
