When I grow up I want to be bitter and spiteful.

"i liked the reality where everything was on fire better"

The Bungie.net Forums, a haven to some and hell to others, was founded on the absurd idea that users should be able to discuss Bungie related material, games, and other topics. However, throughout my entire Bungie.net experience, I have observed an tendency that virtually every user follows. Whether this impulse is conscious or not is up for debate, but there is no doubt that such a crude and unfounded bias exists.

This bias prevails in almost every thread, and can be gaged through number of responses. What I am discussing is a users' habit to respond to a post based solely on title.

Because of this belief, I feel that titles should be done away with, so users posts can be assessed and received by their content, not title. Titles are currently pre-judged relative to all other titles on the page. Users will tend to respond to appealing posts with more favorable titles. Since titles are specific to users' posts, it is unfair to bind them to discussion, as it gives certain posts unfair and even inaccurate worth.

Titles in recent years have been the guiding force of discussion, but ultimately remain an unchallenged topic. There are even mysterious rules that dictate titles beyond the users' control. Surely anything with such power over posts will be abused by some.

For these reasons, and numerous others unlisted, I believe titles should be done away with. Discussion should be done with the body of a post, in 10,000 characters or fewer. When creating a post or thread, the subject box should be inaccessible to users, to prevent bias from flashy titles. I know this change would throw off users who respond to posts by thread titles, but it would encourage discussion and promote understanding. Threads should be uniform! Since titles would be gone, threads could be represented either numerically (as they truly are!) or by simply an icon that indicates a new discussion. It is the title of a thread that sets it apart from another! Such unfair bias should be done away with!

I dream of a day when posts will be treated courteously based on their content, not their title. With the Subject area disabled, we could be one step closer to this dream. No longer would titles set discussion apart.

Thank you.

Enough with the title talk already, they should stay, they're here for fun, nothing more.

I thank you Mushroom Man for a prime example of the lack of courtesy I am talking about. This post is a clear example of both bias to title, and complete irrelevance to discussion.

It was sarcasm. I agree completely though. It's gone to the point where no one will pay attention to anyone with a title of lower than Heroic.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

More examples of irrelevant discussion. You do too much!

I have not noticed such a trend with threads with "heroic" in the title, but perhaps it is because I myself am too biased to notice them!

How dare you attempt to derail such a vital and wholly necessary thread! The future of discussion may depend on what is said here!

Enough! I'm getting sick of all of these title threads! It's gotten to the point where I don't care if they're removed or or not. IMO there's nothing wrong with titles, and all of the bad things that are currently being said about them are based on assumptions by the higher titled members themselves.

There is a list of arguments in the OP which disagrees.
... and all of the bad things about them are based on assumptions by the higher titled members themselves.I find the bias transcends all users, independent of silly "higher titled" users.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Then we'd also have to take away usernames if we want to get rid of posting prejudice, as well as making join date invisible. That'd go further to remove any bias there may be than a title removal.

Case and point: don't worry about it. Girls start getting boobies pretty soon, and then you'll have plenty of other things to think about. Being an Inheritor is not a life goal.

I disagree, if I were to create a post about how member titles need to stay, and labeled it "Ice Cream". It's completely fair.

In terms of member titles, I don't think that is true. Regular members are regularly quoted or responded to. I agree that some people take the titles too far, but for most they are just for fun.

In terms of the title of a thread, that makes no sense.

People still haven't realized this is about thread titles and not member titles.

Ugh, never mind. It seems as if I've either been seeing too many member title threads and am jumping to conclusions whenever I see "title" in a thread, or I was just tricked.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

There doesn't need to be another thread about this. We get it, alright?

I don't really understand where this sudden uprising came from. I have always thought titles were, more or less, stupid. But I don't see how it actively hurts the Community. Other than these threads popping up 10 times a day. It causes too much clutter and it's more annoying to see these kinds of thread than the HUGE "impact" that these titles seem to have.

Even if it is a joke.

When he was younger, he was the one who always had the jokes and riddles that would keep the spirits of the Spartans high. Over the years however, his lifetime of combat had hardened him, as it had all of the Spartans. Within Will, John thought, something special had been lost.

Are we specifically discussing thread titles?
I feel that the general term "title" is misleading some (my own first thought being "member ranks").

In the case of nameless threads, I can't say that I'm for or against. It is an interesting proposition.

In the case of usernames, they are an obvious necessity.

In the case of member titles, I could definitely see this site without them. I'd go as far as to say I'd prefer it.
