1) The mods don't know anything (minus Shishka, and perhaps NoF). They are regular members.

2) I've never heard of the mods not giving members second chances unless they were being really bad. Making a thread about Halo 3 ("When is it coming out?" and so on) is not too serious. Making one multiple times, even when you are told not to do so, can usually get you blacklisted. I'm doubting these people only made a mistake once...

3) You need to talk to the moderators about their methods. Use the PM system for that.

One, the moderators don't knwo what the next project is. They have to speculate just like the rest of us. Two, if someone is willing to be obscene in one thread, chances are very likely that they will do it again in another thread. Three, the rules are posted, if you brake them you pay the price, suck it up. Four, if you think that the mods are stuck up you have to realize what they have to put up with, morons who have no idea of what they are talking about but who make a thread liek their opinion is fact. I hope this helps you understand the error of your ways, please try to be beneficial to the community in your future posts.

last week i made a thread called "Ready to Move on" were i pretty much bashed bungie. Although bungie does frustrate me with their obstinace to give info about their next project I realize, no, bungie's the best, HAlo is frickin awsome, Im not mad at them, Im mad at the moderators.

Why? Well i find them arrogant IN WAYS. Dont get me wrong, I saw Shiska in the HAlo 2 limited edition DVD and he seemed like a cool guy, and he was very outgoing in the weekly update he did a few weeks ago. Its almost like... A teacher you like when their not your teacher. I think the moderators are, inadvertantly, stuck up. Now that bungie is a big enterpirse, a person couldnt help but feel "impowered" to not only be aprt of of it, but to look at us and say "Haha I know what the next project is bioch" and think our comments are "annoying".

Really moderatrors you have to understand how bungie makes us act weird, soemtimes hostile. I know plenty of good peopel who have benn blacklisted for a mistake that they would have never made again. Moderators, its called second chance, so just chillax

Bungie doesn't make you do any such thing. There's plenty of people who have been posting here for years without getting blacklisted because they're mature enough to think before they post.

The reason people say they'd never "make that mistake again" is because it got them blacklisted. Funny how that works.

I would have figured that since the thread was about how the moderators moderate, the thread would be locked since MAC would need to take it up with the individual mods rather than keep it on the forums. Oh well, It's not my responsibility to move or lock threads.

But it is also about Bungie's silent rule driving people to insane lengths (people that need to get a life) which makes it a rant.

He's allowed to make a complaint if he thinks we've done something wrong. Shishka happens to be my Supervisor (Along with Recon, Yoozel, and stosh) so he can make a final decision. I moved it to a more appropriate forum for him to make his complaint in. He hasn't made it personal, and I didn't find any reason to lock it. Sometime moderators can make mistakes. It's rare, but hey.

It is not a moderator's job to be chilled and let people off just because people promise never to do something again. The pleasantries come from the kindness of their hearts.

The trouble is, it's all very well letting people have a second chance, but this sends out the wrong message to people. It's all psychology and as Shishka pointed out, specifically to back up my point here (he's psychic), blacklisting works. If moderators didn't blacklist people when needs must, others would assume it's ok. From experience, the guys who moderate this site are decent people. They are not stuck up; you just perceive them to be.

I can totally understand why you feel this way and i am sympathetic, but i must urge you to try thinking about it from both views.

mabye i worded myself wrong. Bungie doesnt MAKE people act weird. Its just with all of the stress and anxiousness peopel get a little POd. It could be chemical (if you know what i mean)

And im not mad at the moderator who moved my post, i told him, im cool with it. I just dont like their hastyness to blacklist

and no matter how bad your offense is you should still get a second chance for tow reasons .

1. Its just a forum, not a federal murder case
2. No one is going to be scarred for life if sum one says the blams, so giving someone a second chance is alright. And if they act up again they shoudl be blacklisted. I think the warning should be a three day suspension

You must realize, before a Bungie.net user can use the forums he has to agree to the Terms of Use and the Code of Conduct. Which means he agreed to not be an idiot and/or a jerk.

For example:

Code of Conduct

The Bungie Web Sites and the services provided therein are not to be used to transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable content, as determined by any Bungie Web Sites employee, designee or admin. This includes material which a user may find embarrassing or which may cause distress, unwanted attention or discomfort to them. It also includes vulgar and abusive language, even when masked by symbolic characters, and includes login names, screen names and club names.

I'll be on my own side.

Well, like Mabian said, the best thing to do is to PM the mod in question about the problem. I know at least a couple mods will talk it out with you to explain it. Try PMing Recon; he's usually willing to explain it.

I have never heard of an account where a member made a single "simple mistake" and was blacklisted. I've seen where members made the same mistake, and decided to not read the rules (and the mods don't always have to give an explanation, since the rules are at the top of every forum), thus getting themselves blacklisted. But I don't think any mod would blacklist a person right off of the bat because they made one mistake.

And just a random thought, but I think people know when something happens to their thread that they shouldn't be doing it, even if they don't necessarily think about that consciously. I don't think it harms a person's mind in any way when they are blacklisted.

  • 04.05.2006 5:50 PM PDT

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I think you just need to realize that the Moderators are different from you. Their minds work differently, they have different philosophies on how the forums should work. Allthough I'd agree to your claim that some seem stuck up, it isn't all the time. I'm sure they have their bad days, and on those days they probably don't give a rats ass what you think, and they don't really need to. They're here to keep the forums clean of nonsense, and that's what they do. What you said in your previous thread against Bungie was nonsense, and you even admitted to it. If you don't want the mods to react negatively to your posts, reread what you write several times over. It'll "cool" you down, so-to-speak, and possibly get rid of some of those "chemicals" which might cause people to lose their cool and -blam!- about how they should have more info than they get.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Despite what the moderators or Bungie as a whole do, it shouldn't (and doesn't) make you do anything. Whatever you do is your choice and soley your choice. If you read something that offends you, post it in a blog or don't post it at all. Nothing on a video-game related forum should offend you to a point where you post things that would deserve a blacklist.

The only topics that would truly offend anyone to those lengths (might) be political, religious, and racial discussion, and we all (should) know that those topics aren't allowed here.

The moderators do their job (which they volunteered to do); they don't have to be your friends, nor do they have to give you second chances. Think before you post and you'll go far. Moderators CAN be your friends if you obey forum rules.

As for their comments...they don't post overly-harsh comments. I'm sure you hear (or heard) comments worse than this at school. Their witty comments are rarely (if at all) used in an ill manner, if you take it as a personal insult, there's always an X in the top right corner that you can use to allow you to go take some time to cool of.

It's like you said...chillax.

So, let me get this straight. You posted an inflammatory thread; and it was violating forum rules. Congratulations, you have all the requirements to have whatever done with you that the mods please. AKA: your next paragraph.

Why? Well i find them arrogant IN WAYS. According to the definition Shishka is "stuck up". And guess what? He knows it. Now look down at your pinky toe and imagine, just for a moment, that the piece of toenail hanging off the end of it. That's about as much as he cares. You can't tell the mods what to do, they are dictators, they keep things sane around here better than anyone else. You try don't change their actions; you change your actions.

Really moderatrors you have to understand how bungie makes us act weird, soemtimes hostile. I know plenty of good peopel who have benn blacklisted for a mistake that they would have never made again. Moderators, its called second chance, so just chillax

Bungie doesn't make you act weird, or your mom, or dad, or that kooky guy next door. You do. My advice? Be more careful, it happens. And when it does, and it will, imporve yourself because of it, griping and moaning gets you nowhere.
