Can you be banned for the content of your own messages sent?

What? Got something against Yetis?

I'd assume so. If you're spamming -blam!-.

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

Indeed you can. Depending on what you're sending and who you're sending it to.

  • 09.13.2011 2:34 PM PDT

Thus I refute thee

In the circumstance that it is horrific and sent to a mod then my guess would be yes, to a member the one time maybe, constantly to a member definitely

Do you like Yax? I do.

I don't know. It wouldn't surprise me if Ninjas can't, but I'm sure the web Team can.

Things such as harrassment, threats and distribution of illegal content through private messages can lead to permabans.

Hey, how's it going?

Xbox Ambassador

Ambassador Support Chat

If it's to a regular user and they report you for something then maybe, most likely yes. If it's to a mod and isn't at all pleasant then yes.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

Yes, you can. Its rare though. Most mods won't do anything about PMs. You'd have to be spamming en masse or blatantly harassing someone. Even then, bans for PMs is a rarity.

If you're talking about that flower PM, I'd say it is not banworthy. Though who knows? Some mod might think it is.

Swag punks, fuck off!

I don't think you can, unless it's a dirty message to one of the mods.

I play for fun and armory completion. :)

I think you can, but normal forum rules are probably less strict. First of all, its hard to prove harassment because of photoshop and stuff.

Things such as harrassment.

Isn't that why there's a block button?

  • 09.13.2011 3:11 PM PDT

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

Yes, it depends on the severity, take this PM for example:

I think he got Perma'ed for operating a scam

I might be wrong here but from what I can tell complaints about PM'es are exclusively handled by the staff, due to the fact that the mods don't have the same access, and in the event of a ban it's more or less always a permaban.

Furthermore, unless I'm completely in the dark here it's not possible to block someone unless you've already recieved a message from said person. Add to this the possibility of getting PMes from alternative accounts.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

I'm almost sure that's the case, I'm not sure if voluntary moderators would be allowed to have access to the PM system. Though I guess if they take your word based on copy/paste text or a print screen, I suppose they could still technically handle it.

However I'm sure the following is completely true. Unless I enjoy making up things in my head.

Everything on this site is under Bungie's rules.

So yes, private messages can get you banned.

They are only private to other users, not those that control the site.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Who cares? What are they going to do, blacklist them from the Forums? You probably got the flower PM or a Wednesday PM

You can probably get banned/warned for almost every "Dirty" message if the user reports it.
