When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.
Welcome to the Crimson: Steam Pirate forum. In this thread will contain questions that are often asked within the forum that is not covered in the FAQ. Please read through and become familiar with details behind Crimson: Steam Pirates.
1. What is this "Crimson: Steam Pirates" game?
It is a new iPad game developed by Harebrained-Schemes. Crimson: Steam Pirates is a swashbuckling adventure that takes place on, above, and below the Caribbean Sea. Command pirate steamships, airships, and submarines with an elegant user interface in this turn-based strategy game with stunning graphics and animations!
2. What does Bungie have to do with this game?
Crimson: Steam Pirates is the first game published by Bungie Aerospace. Bungie Aerospace is a seperate division of Bungie that focuses on helping small independent developers make mobile and social games. Essentially, all that Bungie does is help the company developing the game with finanicial resources, marketing of the game, and testing/technical help in developing the game.
3. Ohh, so this is Bungie new game right? Why would Bungie leave Halo for making iPad games?
Nope, this has nothing to do with Bungie new game. This is completely developed by a seperate company, Harebrained-Schemes. The game is simply being published through Bungie Aerospace.
4. I'm terrible at this game. I can't even get past the first chapter.
It's OK, nobody was amazing at the game at the beginning. You can check out some tutorials on how to play here. You can learn about the weapons here. You can learn about the officer and their abilities here.
5. What?! Why is this game only for the iPad?! Why isn't it on my [insert mobile device]?!
Calm down. Currently the game is only available on all iPad devices. According to this page, the game will be available for the iPhone, Steam (a PC platform), and Android tablets (note: no word on the Android phone).
6. Wow, this game sucks. I can't even get it to work on my iPad.
Currently there is only one official fix, which can be seen here.
There are a few unofficial fixes that have proven to work.
One is simply to reboot your iPad. All you have to do is hold the home button and the power/lock button at the same time for a few seconds, and you iPad should reboot.
The second is a little unconventional. It requires you to change the language of your iPad to any other language than English (make sure you know how to change it back to English), then attempt to open Crimson. If it works then, then hit the home button while the app is open and change the language back to English.
The third is a bit more complicated. It requires you to go to your apps page, and double click the home button rather fast and a bar with some apps should appear. Then hold down one of the apps on your "quick selection" bar till the app button starts shaking. Then hit the delete button on all of them (note: this doesn't delete the app) from your qucik selection bar. Reboot the device (look at the fix above to reboot your iPad). And then try loading your iPad.
7. This game is a ton of fun. How can I get more swashbuckling action?
You can purchase the second chapter within the game for $1.99. It include 8 extra levels, and in my opinion, it is a lot more fun then chapter 1. Please show your support for the game and buy it. It's only a $1.99.
8. OMG, I'm stuck on [insert level] and I can't beat it! It's too hard, what gives?
BaMunki is doing excellent walkthroughs of levels from both chapters in this thread. Check them out for help.
9. What is up with this game? Pirates didn't have steam engines back then to power their ships. Nothing makes sense. And where did that freeze ray and proximity circle-rings-of-death come from?
The game takes place in the Crimson World. It's not based on reality.
More to come.
