Marines when they turn on you for betraying them... seriously they can kill you in a few quick bursts, but can't seem to ever do that against the real enemy -_-

Though they do base elites culture on the old japanese honorable warrior system which hardly exists at all today. Seriously switch on over to google and image search japan then and now. Do it go ahead I'll wait.

Their society wen from honorable hive mind conglomerate to b****es right quick.

I never said current Japanese culture, did I?

The Flood is not going to be the enemy. 343 knows better.

Sorry, but there really is little option for anything else.

Ever heard of making a new enemy?

Yes, and as I quite clearly said, 343i would not be stupid enough to shoehorn anything unhinted at before into the universe for no reason while leaving the mysteries of the Precursors and Flood (which they have been giving the utmost priority in the same stories that are supposed to have resonant connections to the Reclaimer Trilogy) completely untouched. If they do, they'll piss off a lot of fans--myself included--for turning Halo into a Star Wars-like "throw whatever you like in there for no reason" concept.

It works for Star Wars (usually) but I'd rather not risk Halo's story becoming irrelevant like Star Wars' story did.

Sorry, but there really is little option for anything else.

The Forerunners? They're in deep sorrow over what they did, they wouldn't dare try anything again; they're also our likely allies.

And they'd be beyond overpowered for us to fight.

The Precurors Race? Again, beyond overpowered. And there is only one Precursor left it would seem, making him at least the main villain in the similar vein as Truth.

We're humanity's last hope and the Covenant are powerless, so neither humanity or Covenant as a primary enemy. So unless 343i will shoehorn another race in (a bull -blam!- move) without warning, the Flood must be the enemy.

But this is a good thing, both canonically and for gameplay. Flood biology means we can be fighting any infinite number if varying forms. Its a simple matter of turning the Flood from space zombie enemy into intelligent army enemy, which the Flood is perfectly suited for.

I agree with this man. That is why I don't think UNSC/Covenant will be at Halo 4. Also, it would be very interesting to fight with Forerunners against Flood led by Timeless one/Gravemind. It would be way cool since it's possible that we may see flood from Forerunner-Flood War which it would be terrifying.

You sure about that?
The Flood is a one-way ticket to low-ratings and turned off fans.
Oh, and by the way, I believe it's been said time and time again that "an ancient evil will threaten the fate of the universe."
That "ancient evil" they're referring to is NOT the Flood. That promotional slogan would only lead to sorry, sorry disappointment if it were them.

  • 09.15.2011 2:14 PM PDT

So Ruby... Halo 4 HAS to have UNSC for it to be consistent with the previous halo games, but it CANNOT have the flood because that'd be stupid?

Edit: Also, the flood are ancient, and evil. Perhaps it'd be entirely new forms, flood forerunners?

LOL!

Ancient Enemy only means Precursor or Flood. They fit in age of being "ancient evil".

WOOO! Points being mistaken! I missed that so much!
Try to actually understand what I'm saying before spouting smart-ass remarks attempting to point a fallacy out in my argument.
I said the Flood will not be the main enemy, and if they were, it would only lead to poor regards among reviewers and fans.

I actually just entered this topic, so whatever.

Also, it'd only lead to poor regard if the flood are as pathetic as they are in halo 2 and 3.

Right, so either we get the giant boss-battle bad guys, or the space zombies which are usually regarded as annoying to fight. GREAT IDEA!
You ever heard of people always talking about how they hate the The Library, and Cortana missions? Well, going by that, the public hate two levels with only Flood, but they'll SURELY love an ENTIRE friggin game with all levels containing them!! :D

This thread is getting hot. I'm getting out of this burning barn.

The boss battles in the halo trilogy were considered more annoying then those two levels.

Library I haven't really heard hate. I've heard people going semi-praise to neutral about the difficulty, but not hate.

Cortana however, I've heard hate just because of the sniper ally and the stalker forms.

COD fanboys....wait ohhh eneimies in the halo game...got it..uhh the flood

  • 09.15.2011 2:25 PM PDT

The Flood.

Annoying, overwhelming and scary. By far, one of the best enemies in any game.

Please pay attention to what I said. Firstly, the Flood is literally THE perfect video game enemy. They can take the form of anything to suit any purpose. The Flood we've seen in the trilogy were not advanced enough to churn out Pure Forms (until H3 of course, but we stalled that particular invasion).

The Flood the Forerunners fought--the ones that would be in H4 and lead by Ancient Evil (the Primordial)--were terrifying, from swarms of "foot soldier" class Flood all the way to massive sky-scraper sized behemoths. Boss battles, swarm attacks, ranged sniper-fights, dog fights, you name it, the Flood can do it.

The Flood needs only this condition: to be in an advanced stage. That is all that is needed to create the perfect enemy.

as for the Ancient Evil part, I already covered that with Primordial.

I cap fools.

Obviously engineers. They're not even (technically) alive, being Forerunner- made. Plus in one of the books it fixes a needler for the Chief, which I thought was pretty cool.

The hunters are the best.

Doesnt anyone remember their first trip to the halo ce campaign, and instantly pausing the game as a huge freaking pair of blue aliens with fuel rods cannons on their arms popped out from nowhere?

I remember =P

If the lekgolo can combine to form hunters, why stop there?

Surely they could make massive, building sized colonies of lekgolo worms and be literaly unstoppable in ground engagements.

Then again, I guess thats what scarabs are for.

so OT maybe a MASSIVE lekgolo colony, the timeless one, a forerunner warrior-servant like the Didact or a regular precursor.

The only reason their are not any "Lekgolo destruction buildings" is because when they were found, their were forerunner structures surrounding the planet and on the planet. The Lekgolo were eating away at most of the structures. While most were eating the structures, some were eating everything but the structures. The covenant, saying it was heresy, started a war with the Lekgolo, who formed Hunter forms. While they won most ground engagements, the Covenant just retreated to space and threatened to glass the planet. The Lekgolo, fearing extinction, joined the covenant, the ones that ate the Forerunner structures were killed, and the ones that didn't, joined the races of the Covenant, who gave them their armor and weaponry, but, because of the races past, were only given the hunter armor, as the war with humanity progressed, the Covenant decided to they were ready and started making the Scarabs, which was the strongest war machine they were able to create the Prophets decided. that is why their are no Lekgolo super colonies. yet.
