Oh lawd, one hour and thirty minutes left.
Says three for me... :/
I have to wait seventeen hours...
Wait, what?

It's run out for me, and you all still have to wait? I guess that means I might have to wait too.

I thought we all decided the site was fake?

That doesn't change the fact that it is a countdwon and we are all curious to see what happens at the end.

By the way, how do countdowns work. Because i have searched the entire source code for the website and have found nothing other than that countdown, where is the content that is supposed to be revealed? Do they upload it on the day?

Who said any content was going to be revealed? I have a countdown timer on my own site, I don't say what it's for and it doesn't do anything but count down. I just happen to know that it is the time until finals, but no one else needs to know that.

This is probably some internal timer that we shouldn't care about in the slightest.

So your saying it will just appear as a white a screen when it has finished counting down? NO. There at least will be a message.

lol, again, how do you know that?

An ARG for Destiny would be great, though, so I hope it has something to do with that.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Who said it had anything to do with Bungie? I knew it didn't in the first place. It is for Podophobia Entertainment.

Ok lets see...

Meet me at 3pm tomorrow!

*is there at 3pm GMT*
"Where is everyone?"
*Some one else shows up at 3pm PST*
"Where is everyone?"

There is 8 hours difference or what ever it is. The count down was set to a date, not specifying what timezone to abide by. Thus meaning when I go to the site, it will be 8 hours closer to the count down being done, than lets say someone in the PST timezone.

  • 09.16.2011 5:09 PM PDT

It stops at 12:00AM on 9.17.2011 CDT.

I think your argument is backwards, but after seeing how this specific count down ends depending on what timezone you are in, let me expand.

Let's say I make a countdown that runs for 20 hours. I start the countdown at 12 AM CST zulu (pretty sure zulu is the actual US military standard time). The countdown will end at 8 PM zulu. When the countdown ends is not dependent on what time zone you are in. It ends at a specific time, all you need to do is convert to see when it ends in your time zone. This type of countdown would be used for an event like a rocket launch, sporting event, concert, etc.

The countdown linked is similar to a New Year's countdown. When it ends is dependent on what time zone you are in.

That is what I meant.

wot. I know this. What I was explaining is that that countdown wasn't like you explained and simply set to a date without timezones.

You asked "Why would it need to take timezones into account?" well as you said, to make it end at the same time around the world instead of different times depending on what timezone you're in.

Why would you say "Ok guys I got something to announce at 9pm.", "oh wait im only going to tell the aussies and then the brits then maybe you yanks.".

Thats dumb. Thats the person who made the site.

Dis. And it ends, like I said, at 12AM CDT tonight/tomorrow.
But it doesn't for everyone else. I can't believe you'd be that self centered as to think it still ends at that time just because you saw it ends at midnight for you and no one else. It ends at midnight PDT for me.

GUYS IT ENDS AT MIDNIGHT PDT. LISTEN TO ME GUYS. NOT ANY OTHER TIME.

Please stop hyping something that Bungie has stated isn't directly related to them. They'd organize this much better if it was. Please don't complain if it turns out someone tricked you into thinking this would something cool. It's your fault.

I am confused now, does the Podophobia countdown end at one single time, or is like a New Year's countdown where it ends multiple times.

I tend to take the opposite view. You take time zones into account when you want it to go down like a New Year's countdown. If it is a set time, you don't need to take time zones into account. You look at the countdown that says "X HOURS Y MINUTES Z SECONDS UNTIL THIS AWESOME EVENT" then you look at your clock. Based on the countdown and your clock you know when in your time zone that awesome event is happening, The user who created the countdown does not have to worry.

You example is not very applicable. You never mentioned a countdown. You mentioned a time. That obviously needs to take time zones into account. However, if someone says, "Let us get together three hours from now." Times zones do not need to be taken into account.

There isn't seriously a fight going on here about the PODOPHOBIA COUNTDOWN, is there? Calm down, dudes. Apoc, you're probably right, but it's whatevz.

Just enjoy this funny picture and make up, guys.
