Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

I like to think of Halo Reach like I do with some of the episodes in Halo Legends, an interesting fan story, not cannon, but not entirely meant to be forgotten either.

They are both 100% canon, whether or not you or I like some of the things included.

Shamelessly bumping my two threads because of the sudden influx of closed threads clogging the front page as well as wanting more input on these ideas.

I enjoyed this post. Spartans almost never took their helmets off and you did a great job illustrating why.

Very interesting read with all arguments backed with evidence.

Excellent work, we need more of this on the Universe Forum.

Feel free to add any more instances of this you find in the game that I haven't previously mentioned.

I never got why it takes two body shots with a sniper for a kill, but one shot to the head, I mean, shouldn't the head have more shielding?

Just a thought.

It shouldn't even drop the shields all the way. Mark V's shields only dropped to half after being hit by a smattering of 50mm rounds. The Sniper rifle is only slightly greater than 14mm.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

For once, this is a wall of text worth reading. Kudos!

Good work to the OP, excellent read.

Your point is very well exampled by the use of customizable armor in the Halo community to differintiate ourselves from our peers.

We already know we're human but our Spartan identities are important enough to us to put the energy into making them as unique as possible, including our emblems.

I've carried my emblem with me through three games.

Sorry for bumping a thread that's not getting any more replies, so I'll bump only this one and not my other one.

Would you gents watch a video version of my two threads (and potentially more)? I think that using clips directly from the game would illustrate my points better, and it'd maybe generate more thought from people who aren't too keen on reading but may offer additional input or criticism.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

Sure, why not?

  • 10.26.2011 8:55 AM PDT

=)

I'd probably do more like this, and some less serious videos too lol

  • 10.26.2011 9:08 AM PDT

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

Supporting the video idea. Just link it somewhere! =P

Never leave home without your shotgun.

Though it's a bit intimidating to look at, it was a good read.

And I don't think we'll ever see S117's face, because he's supposed to be kind of anonymous; the faceless hero of humanity. Even his name, John, is a common-but-strong name evoking the old 'John Smith' title.

For that reason, I'm glad we got to use our MP models as Noble Six. It's easier to explain your various odd actions throughout the campaign when you're playing your own character. My Spartan, Jack-167 is my own little avatar for Halo. My playstyle doesn't fit the usual Hero mentality, so it was nice to have that there.

Though some (or most even) probably don't care about roleplaying in FPS games, but.. it was nice for those that do.

This was very interesting to read and it makes a lot of sense.

why? because i'm a member.

I believe Bungie removed the helmets of noble during these key scenes for a different reason, one that carries more practical motives than metaphorical, but makes the same amount of sense.

It is hard to feel emotion for a helmet. Imagine for a second that you are throwing your toaster away. Easy. Picture your toaster with a face. Imagine its eyes as you close the lid of the dustbin. Its still a toaster, but you can empathise with it a lot more. I believe Bungie wanted to 'Put the face on the toaster' for lack of a better phrase. In these scenes it was important to convey emotion, and to do this the best, you must be able to see their face.

The difference between this and John-117 (and to some extent Noble 6) is that you are that character. You fill in how you feel.

This is a very well written topic IMO. I never thought of the symbolism behind the helmets. I did occasionally wonder why any of the Spartans removed their helmets at all considering who they were, and why Emile was the only one to never remove his anyways.

Good job. Great read.

I think that you are mistaken, not in what you are saying about the helmets (at least not most of it), but that you thought our two interpretations are incompatible.

Attraction and attachment to the characters was something Bungie was going for.
