They were around before the covies. They wanted the outer colonies to be free from the UNSC.

You can compare it with the colonies in America and the mainland Europe.

This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

Oh gawd. Where to begin.

Read The Fall of Reach, Cole Protocole, the start of Contact Harvest and especially the short story Dirt from Evolutions.

Long story short, the rebels were a group of people that demanded the UNSC that should have the right to succeed and be able to self govern due to the UNSC's policy of ''Earth Interests First'' and not catering to each of the colonies individual and unique problems. The UNSC, of course denied them this since the Outer Colonies where the main supply of raw good for the UNSC, and loosing them would be a hard blow. The UNSC entered an undeclared civil war with the rebellion that by 2525 had more than 1 million civilian casualties caught in the cross fire. The main surge of the rebellion happend to be in the Epsilon Eridanus system, the same system where Reach was, the UNSC's main colony and heavy producer of war materials, war ships and training grounds for the UNSC ground forces. The Rebels managed to survive by hiding in the Asteroid Belt that was in the system, lead by a former UNSC colonel that had defected to the rebel cause, which would later be caught by Blue Team when they infiltrated the asteroid-base. Tribute, in the Epsilon Eridanus system, was scenario of the hardest UNSC repression against the Rebellion. The war was officially called OPERATION TREBUTCHET, and the Spartan's were mainly made to be able to deal with the Insurgency, silently and effectively.

That could sum it up.

I think this guy means...

When the Covenant are destroying your sepcies and the UNSC are trying to fight off genocide, you would atleast aid the UNSC (even if this truce was for the very briefest of moments) not continue to attack them. What use is winning the civil war with the UNSC when a alien super power is commiting acts of genocide on your sepcies.

...Or atleast that's what I thought he ment.

I don't think the Covenant would directly accept help fomr humans but if you mean in the sense that the innies are aiding the Covenant by trying to kick the UNSC when they're down then I see your point but still don't think it's likely. Also I think almost every colony was aware of the war after a while...I mean after all they were destroying colony after colony, I'm sure the Innies were bound to figure out there was a war going on.

Well I believe the book, "The Cole Protocol" said that many of the Insurrectionists thought that the Covenant were fighting the UNSC, and were not just trying to kill the entire Human race.

I'm not saying the Insurrectionists didn't hear about the Covenant wiping out all of Humanity, but they didn't believe the UNSC, who was telling them that.

I mean I haven't read all the books, but I have read The Cole Protocol, Fall of Reach, First Strike, Contact Harvest, and Ghosts of Onyx, and it seemed to me that Rebel attacks pretty much stopped following the spread of the Human-Covenant War and in First Strike the Rebels even helped the UNSC launch an attack on Covenant forces from the same Rebel base Blue Team raided as a 14 year olds...

This, plus, a lot of them initially thought that the "Covenant" was a ruse to get rid of the insurrection. And the ones that knew they were real didn't think they were as bad as the UNSC made them out to be i.e. The Rubble.

Ad Infinitum

It sounds like they just had their head up their ass for some 30 odd years. But, honestly, as posts above me have stated, what the hell is the point in trying to kill off the only thing that stands between you and extinction? (UNSC)

Those silly Innies.

  • 09.15.2011 3:25 PM PDT

most didnt belief that the UNSC was being attacked from an alien race

  • 09.15.2011 3:46 PM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

It was started back before the war. Old habits die hard, and the insurgents just didn't think about how real the threat was to them.

For the most part hostilities between the UNSC and insurrectionists ceased after the arrival of the Covenant. While the rebels mainly just opted out of the war hiding away where they could. It was shown in the books that they would work along side the Jackals not knowing they intended to destroy them.
