Subject: Why is it you never see Flood Grunts?

I mean rely, I have never seen a flood grunt in the Halo trilogy.

Why?

You know Big Grunty Thirsts?

They're quenched by Flood. Grunts just stuff 'em into their mouths as much as they can before they're killed by whatever.

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

They become carrier forms, as their bodies are to small to make suitable combat ones. This is also true with Jackals per "Halo: The Flood" although Halo Wars features differently.

Yeah this is what I've read and seen as well so, it is valid. It also says it in the Halo 2 strategy guide.

  • 09.15.2011 2:30 PM PDT

Because in the trilogy Bungie didn't have the models/AI for a grunt or jackal combat form. They, as far as I remember, never state it as impossible though.

  • 09.15.2011 2:47 PM PDT

Ad Infinitum

Say what you want, but I think it's 'cause grunts are too weak to be anything but carriers. They would make terrible combat forms. Hell, they make terrible covie soldiers...

Gravemind probably didn't want them.

Insufficiant biomass.

Most of their bodies are complied to make carrier forms wjile the rest just add to random biomass that cover areas lie on high charity.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Flood require enough biomass and calcium to build off of. Jackals don't have much calcium as they are an avian species and Grunts don't seem to have much biomass. That's my idea though.

They either don't have a good enough amount of biomass to make a good combat form or they have little in terms of calcium in their systems.

System Integrity Confirmed

Biomass and Calcium done. And they do make terrible covie scum soldiers but maybe they could get a little better seeing as the elite become like super jumpy -blam!- slapping tentacle elites if they get converted.

They existed in Halo Wars, but hey, a lot of pure forms existed back then too along with the ones from Halo legends.

I guess after Halo wars, the flood realized they were useless.

Actually you do saw them. The grunts and Jackals are transformed into those walking blobs with tentacles that if you shoot them they explode and release more of those small pure form flood thingies.

Because they carry alot of plasma grenades, also did you ever wonder why Johnson never got infected? In a book He had a crate of plasma grenades and was throwing them at the covanant and for some reason when the flood encountered him they let him be, because plasma grenades give of a high level dose of radiation.

The grunts are immune to the Flood, just like Sgt. Johnson.

Nope he was immune because he was part of project Orion. To cover up all the test side effects of the project ONI created a fake disease called Boren's Syndrome and anyone trying to access anything about Orion would be sent to a file about the disease.

Not enough biomas to do anything other than turn them into carryer forms.

  • 09.16.2011 1:08 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Carrier forms. Halo 2 told me so.

Mojeda has it right, there are flood grunts in Halo Wars, but they make poor combat forms so are usually just consumed for the biomass.

  • 09.16.2011 1:20 PM PDT

Suffice to say, they were intended to appear in the original Halo: CE, but thanks to time constraints, they couldn't finish the model or AI. There are some concepts floating around of what a Flood infected Grunt would be.

Also, there are Flood infected grunts and jackals in Halo Wars... but yeah, you can barely see those.
