Jack

If you look at the Halo media you see the marines and ODST's do some pretty tough stuff (Dutch ramming a metal bar through an Elite's head, kicking down a solid door, those marines on The Mona Lisa kicking and stabbing the flood in the short stop motion movie of it, Mellisa Mckay overpowering the flood combat form, the ODST's on the ship The Heart of Midlothian giving grunts a brutal beating with bare hands, john Forge and the Arbiter...

man I could go on, I just think humans are so underrated in hand to hand combat in halo games, humans are pretty tough, especially a fit trained soldier who knows how to fight and kill WITHOUT a weapon, i can see them struggling against brutes, elites but with a knife they stand a decent chance and they are much tougher than grunts and jackals..?

It'd be too much for the mechanics of the game I would presume. You can get up to around a maximum of 10 Marines/ODST's on a certain part of a Halo game, now imagine the stress the game would have to go through if all of them were programmed to do other things instead of shoot, talk, walk and drive.

Not to mention that this wouldn't be 343i's immediate problem with the future Halo games. If they're going to add something new like this too them then they might as well programme the AI to drive a lot better.

Kat, I'm looking at you here ...

I doubt that. CE could handle 70+ AI. H2 could handle a bunch of marines in warthogs. H3 can handle 50+ AI (The Storm), 40+ AI (The Covenant). Reach can handle 40+ AI by default.

It's clear that Bungie was going to implement melee for marines since they now have animations. They just didn't have the time or motivation to finish it.

Okay, here goes...

Halo 1/PC: Marines couldn't melee at all
Halo 2: Marines could melee and it actually did decent damage
Halo 3/ODST: Marines melee does no damage at all, only enough to pop an infection form
Halo Reach: Same as 3/ODST, i've yet to see any form of melee do any damage at all.

Hopefully i understood right. But in actually Halo fiction, the Elites are equivalent to Spartans, if not superior. And Master Chief dominated 3 ODST's as a teenager so i highly doubt they'd be able to fend them off properly at all in hand to hand combat. As for Brutes...they're even tougher so lets not even go there...

With a combat knife, even then this is highly unlikely as the Elites are quicker and could probably stop the threat quickly.

i agree, elites are more evolved for combat. But i wonder why the brutes have the same speed as elites, they should be faster, because the brutes dont have a combat harness.

The odd thing is, when they are half infected in Halo 3, their melee is powerful enough to flip a Mongoose with a Spartan in the driver's seat...

As for H2 marines meleeing, I thought those were just ODSTs.

It must be their laziness because Brute Chieftains can run very fast, as well as berserking Brutes (armored or unarmored) while Brute minors don't have much armor yet still run slowly. Both Chieftains and minors have similar armor (they aren't bulky like the higher ranking ones) so it couldn't be because of their power armor.

So yeah, the Covies lost the war because the Brutes weren't that dedicated.
