From what little I read so far, it seems these are an intro to Glasslands, but I've read only the first paragraph.

Finishing now.

Edit: For those who may be incapable of reading it for whatever reason, its essentially a letter to Parangosky musing over the past war with the Covenant. They make mention of the unbelievable losses and bring up the signal that the Iriquois intercepted (the one that originally lead us to Halo). The writer suggests the signal and the crystal used to send it are related to Forerunner sites like Onyx, Meridian (I don't recall that name) and Arcadia.

It's Stanforth reflecting about the aftermath of the battle of Sigma Octanus not musing over the "past war with the Covenant". Perhaps that's what you meant, but the way you've worded it here is rather misleading. Also, the crystal isn't mentioned anywhere, and using the line "that thing Halsey's digging up on Reach" hardly points to that conclusion or any other for that matter as Halsey had several dig sites under her watch on Reach.

Probably that site at Visegrad or SWORD base.

When they say "we took out 18 of those things" I'm assuming they mean covie cruisers or scarabs, more likely cruisers...?

It was in reference to the 18 Covie ships that were destroyed in the Naval battle Above the surface of Sigma Octanus IV

Are you sure you read what I read? By musing over the war I'm referring to his line "Its been so long since we walked away from one of these things alive." And he quite clearly talks about the data stream sent from Octanus IV, an therefore in turn, is mentioning the crystal (whether he knows it or not, that crystal has returned to the stage).

And I didn't come to that conclusion, Stanforth did.

Hey, now!

This is officially either the greatest or worst thing to ever happen to Star Wars. I'm going with the former.

By "coming out of that thing alive" he means a battle. For further proof, look at the date:

OFFICE OF NAVAL INTELLIGENCE/SECTION 3
DUE DILLIGENCE REPORT-A340021
2300 HOURS, JULY 18, 2552
CLASSIFIED TOP SECRET

July 2552. This is months before the end of the war.

Look I know he's talking about Octanus IV, I never didn't know that, I'm saying he references the struggle humanity has been going through by saying "its just been so long since we walked away from one of these things alive."

What else other than SOIV could he be talking about?

It's been a while since they didn't have their ass handed to them, and repelled a Covenant assault.

I.E., walked away from one alive.

Lol. He's clearly talking about the battle at Sigma Octanus IV. There's no question there.

The line, "it's just been so long since we walked away from one of these things alive." does seem peculiar to me, however. Wasn't Cole winning these space battles all the time?

If by all the time, you mean at all. He "won" a few, and by won I mean losing an asston of ships.

He went MIA in 2543, anyway, so this is 9 years after that.

Ah. True. I was thinking of the dates wrong. That comment makes a lot of sense then since the last time they would have won a space battle against the Covenant was probably when he went MIA.

BRAVADO was mentioned in Halsey' Journal...interesting.

I noticed that too. 343 either is mentioning it as an easter egg or they really are trying to fuse all media into one coherent canon. Even if this isn't part of that, I hope to see Glasslands relating somehow to Halo 4.

This is most likely a teaser for Glasslands. First a star map of Onyx, now a message to Margaret (her last name is impossible to remember how to spell). The last Data Drop's release only days before Glassland's... Put the pieces together.

Does anyone know anything about the locations called Meridian or Arcadia?

Dr. Halsey was on Meridian in 2544 and was guarded by a Spartan-II named Sheila, who was killed by Thel Lodamee.

Arcadia was a location in Halo Wars, I believe a portion of a star map was there that pointed to the Halo Wars Shield World.

You must be thinking of Miridem.

Meridian apparently was a ONI lab where some of the Spartan II augmentation chemicals were sent.

Hey, that's nothing to apologize for, I thought the same thing at first. I had to do some double checking, actually, as they both are basically throw away names.
