We limit the amount of times someone can post in a time-frame, along with how many threads they can make per day. Why don't we just limit the amount of links someone can post in x amount of time?

Saves a lot of trouble when people are shock-site spamming.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

But then how am I supposed to always post in links?

I just don't think it would actually help stop anything.

Because that would suck if you were making a long post that had multiple links in it?

We don't need to cater to them. That's what they want.

You can fine tune the system, so most people don't run into trouble. Most people don't link dump multiple times a day.

It's been going on for quite a while. I doubt that they care at this point.

How would this thread ever be made? The amount of links in there is more than enough to spam a forum.

So what you're saying is if you had to pick one thing and one thing only that you'd have the web team do to make the forums a better place, making it ever so slightly more difficult to post links to shock-sites is top of the list?

The amount of threads like that, I would assume, are probably less than 2% of total threads made. The thread can also be added to.

No... You're idea is excessively flawed and should not be implemented due to the holes in its essential design. That is all.

It runs into the same blocks as the thread limit does. Some people have legitimate purposes and want to make more than the total amount of threads allowed. It's a slight inconvenience, but it prevents massive amounts of spamming from people who wish to abuse it.

That's the direct implication of your chat about "the trouble of shock-site spamming", a "problem" I'm fairly sure simply exists in the realms of your own imagination, as I'm sure most would agree.

No, it isn't.

Sure, if I said something along the lines of, "Fix shock site links and -blam!- everything else."

I was giving input on something that has been going on for a while that hasn't been met with a solution.

Edit: I'm going to go take a nap. I'll be on later.

Seriously? There would literally be absolutely no upside to creating a limit on how many links a user is allowed to create. How many shock links do you think one person can make before getting banned? If your answer is "more than the link limit would allow" then that number is far too low.

If the stars somehow aligned and this were to be implemented across the site it would easily be the worst technique employed to combat spam.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

I agree, the trusty report button is good enough for link spammers.

They already have a limit on quotes. Shouldn't be to hard to do it for URLs since the code is already in place.

new user 24h no-link limit would help.
