It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank god that such men lived. ----------- No Bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. (both by George S. Patton jr.)

Does that mean that the whole human covy war was instigated by the forerunners? Because in cryptum bornsteller talks about how geas could be on humanity and they could last for generations. So if they really did put a geas on master chief then why? And why start the war with the covenant? Is every species doing what the forerunners want? Is this all part of there master plan?

"Halo! Its divine wind will rush through the stars, propelling all who are worthy along the path to salvation."

Wait, what's a geas?

Its a imprint left by forerunners that makes us do what it says while making us think it is our own action.

I'm not seeing the connection between Master Chief having one of these... 'Geas' and the war happening.

If master chief had a geas then the forerunners must have known about the war because master chief was in the war almost his entire life. if you don't understand that then I'm sorry I really can't explain it.

Then Master Chief started the war.

His geas has no effect on the geas of other characters or civilizations. The Covenant war was an unforseen circumstance.

Um... and this 'geas' couldn't have only been concerning forerunner places thus saying how he knew what buttons to push?

Oops. I think I just lost your mind.

Am I the only one who thinks "geas" - a mental command coded into someone's genetics - and "Geass" from the eponymous anime - must both be derived from the Gaelic "geis" or "geas" - a type of "bond" to perform some action or taboo which one cannot break? (This concept appears both as a social more and as a mythical spell that literally causes an action or enforces a taboo.)

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

It could explain how he knows how to use Forerunner tech. Like in the book they just seemed familiar to him. So, I wouldn't be surprised if he had geas.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

Source? Could've sworn the only geas that resulted in action in Cyptum wasn't actually remembered after the fact.
But that may be a flawed interpretation on my part.

And why do you assume a geas would provoke humans into warring with the Covenant?

And why do you assume the humans started the war with the Covenant?

In any case, all these answers are speculation and could be answered in the most part if one were to practice patience.

Geas can be uses for a variety of things.
They can make us do things like how humans are so familiar, they can make us more docile or change our attitude against something, they can make us do certain things at spefific events, they can make us remember things.
It's nearly limitless I believe.
