Watermelon King for an actual attack. I'm pretty sure that whole fiasco was the reason we have multiple spam throttles now. I bet even the mod/employee who had to go deal with all of that at the time laughs about it now.
The worst "spam" I've ver seen on the site though, wasn't an actual attack. It was during the Halo 3 beta, when Crackdown was not letting people download the beta on time. I don't really remember the details, but I think there was something wrong with Xbox Live's DL servers, so millions of people who were trying to DL the H3 beta couldn't, so they went to the HAlo 3 forum to ask why.
I remember sitting there for at least an hour, doing nothing but locking threads. You'd open a thread on the main topic, press lock, rinse and repeat. I think I stopped counting at 600 locked threads in a half hour period. IT went on all night, but eventually some other ninjas logged on so I had some help. I started an "official" info thread about why the beta was broken, and i think it hit 2000 posts in a hour, since I was locking the deluge of new topics about that same exact thing.
