Scientist, attended at Science Con 1985 (Lovely mug!)
Known for: "Chemical X" (Chloromorphositisa X12)
Single parent, I have three daughters going through college.
Last week a friend of mine told me about Halo Anniversary and how 343 industries are bringing back the first Halo game. At first this excited me greatly until I realised that, for some unknown reason, I apparently already have a copy of Halo: Combat Evolved. At first I thought that maybe they had stopped selling this game in stores because it's so old and that they would have to completely remake it and sell it again so that people who have just discovered the series would be able to purchase the first game; I quickly found out that this is not the case and that Halo: Combat Evolved is still in stores.
I don't think that you can find Halo: Combat Evolved brand new into a store anymore, well at least in my own country that it. Plus, Halo Anniversary Edition is different from the original Halo: Combat Evolved.
Perplexed, I looked into it further and found that maybe the online play is the reason they are selling the same game again considering I am unable to play combat evolved on live anymore. This, however, is also not the reason for a re-release of Combat Evolved because: a) It would cost considerably less money for 343 to open the servers for Combat Evolved again so that people can play rather than remake the entire game again and b) Because the online play uses the Reach style of gameplay which, if 343 checked, is already being used in another game called, coincidentally, 'Halo: Reach' which most Halo players already have.
The servers for Halo: Combat Evolved never existed, and the PC ones seem to be perfectly online to my knowledge. While the use of the Halo: Reach engine is the most simple and easy to go choice for 343 Industries. (Otherwise it would be a more time consuming project)
My friend then informed me that the new graphics for the game warrants the cost of such a game even without any original, interesting or innovative gameplay components. I considered this for a little while and then realised I have a painting in my room that consists of three unicorns jumping into a waterfall and is made using sparkles and crayons. The cost of this was only $5 from a lovely girl at the markets and it makes me happy with all the pretty colours. Unfortunately, this negates my need for a $60 AUD game with the only new feature being pretty colours and better reflections so that soldiers can play with themselves while looking at their reflection in Masterchief's viser.
Look I don't understand why you have to mention the pretty girl at the market or the price or whatsoever. I'm a fan of the Halo: Franchise and I like Halo: Combat Evolved as much as I will love Halo: Anniversary Edition.
Regardless, there is always a possibility that 343 have invented some sort of forgetful ray that they will install within the Halo: Anniversary box so that when the player opens the $60 dust collector they will suddenly forget that they already own a copy. If this is the case, I applaud 343's cunning ability to earn money in a world that hates repeats.
I believe you are talking about yourself. Me and my friends always wanted a remake of the original Halo which uses better and more artistic graphics, and I believe what 343 is making is worthy, not just for the nostalgia and to remind us of the good old days, but also introduce new players into the franchise.
