Subject: Why are people so strict about this being a forum?

Live a little.

Even if they changed the site just a little more user friendly in which the PM system was instant, or profile updates it would probably work. This website has so much members and potential, and using other popular websites features would reach it to it's best.

I don't really care either way. I just don't see them putting the effort into changing the forums into something else. I have the feeling that if Bungie wanted to make a social type aspect, they would do it in a separate grouping. So when you hover over "Community" you see an additional area.

Well, they're doing something with the PM system. After the small site update over the summer, you weren't able to send PMs more than every 10 secs. It used to be 30.

I personally wish more forums acted like the Rooster Teeth forums. They have profiles with journals, friendlists, post ratings, it's pretty good. They've turned their own site into a large social network and I don't see why Bungie couldn't do it too; to some extent.
Sadly, there's a difference between RT's site and Bnet.

Rooster Teeth makes funny online videos. Typically, if one joins their site, it's because a person likes RT's work. When someone starts trolling, the rest of the community (all fans of RT) are immediately against said troll. They can have the nice shiny baubles that RT provides because they won't misuse them.

Bnet is different. This is a site made to discuss a video game. This leads to critique, argument, and (in response to disagreements with said arguments) flaming. Because people naturally won't always agree with each other, people here can be bigger jerks than they would on RT. Because of all of the disagreements and flaming, this is a much more suitable place for trolling and being a dick.

It's all about the atmosphere. Despite all of the good people here, there are also a lot of jerks. RT has a much more tame community because they're all fans of RT's humour. You can't argue intensely about which jokes you like and which ones you don't, that's silly. However, here, people can argue about moderator activity, site features, and everything people have argued about in the past over Bungie's games (from the glitches from Halo 2 to the Armour Abilities in Halo: Reach) and that's the point of the forums. Arguments can turn nasty and people can be immature about it. That immaturity starts trolling. Because of that, the community can be less mature.

That's why we shouldn't get chat features and custom avatars However, if you download Coup, that's your choice. I'd prefer not to potentially see pictures of diseased wieners, thank you very much.

When he was younger, he was the one who always had the jokes and riddles that would keep the spirits of the Spartans high. Over the years however, his lifetime of combat had hardened him, as it had all of the Spartans. Within Will, John thought, something special had been lost.

In agreement, I feel like each site we're using as an example fills it's own unique roll and niche very well. They aren't stupid to not include many of the features so many here are clamoring for. Bungie.net aptly serves it's purpose. If they need this site to do more or do something else, they are more than capable of designing it accordingly and designing it well.

We should instead talk about working with what we have. How do we improve the existing features? Not having a "Sentbox"? Serious gap imo. Funcionality in groups? How about greater control in the hands of the founders and staff? Give the groups more control over design and layout with reasonable limitation. All too often groups that start here move homes to official sites, because B.net doesn't offer the flexibility to serve the groups purposes.

Whoo.

Because that's what this is, a forum, this is a place to discuss Bungie and Bungie related things, not a place to go around looking for new friends.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't make friends on Bungie.net, but the site shouldn't be changed to orientate it for that purpose.

And your suggestions, what's the point of having a friends list at all?
I mean, we don't have online/offline statuses, so it'll serve no purpose other than just holding a few names. And if you can't remember the names of your friends on Bungie.net, well, then they aren't really your friends now are they? If you can't even remember their username.

As for a chat and a custom avatar, we already have those, if you don't want to use them then don't, it's perfect, everyone can use whatever features they want instead of having them forced upon them.

As for going on someone's profile, that's so you can see their Halo Statistics, their title, their join dates and what groups they're in. It's for elitism purposes only.

And the avatar is just added differinciation, not individuality, if it was there wouldn't be several different people actively using each and every avatar at any given time.

For instance, when I see that woman with the pink hair, I immediately think "Hey that's count blinkula/pikeman pie" and usually I'm right.
