I <3 you too Bungie

According to Alexa.com Bungie's traffic is seemingly at it's lowest point since [at least] mid-to-late 2009. Do you guys think part of the reason Bungie is going dark is to purge its fan base of the temporal people and rebuild it with a new game? Or do you think the drop in traffic is simply collateral damage? Or is it something else entirely?

(I know Bungie is mainly going dark because of the new game)

It has to do with Halo no longer being in Bungie's hands and them being hush hush about their new project.

No, I think people are reacting to both the transfer of Halo to 343i and Bungie going dark by not coming here as much. I do not think that Bungie is trying to get rid of any of their fans.

Haha, I feel like this most of the time. The only problem is that I don't have any groups that I'm involved with. I spend most of my time wandering what's left of the forums and avoiding the Flood. Sometimes I go to the Flood just for company though.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

I dunno, sounds like a pretty good business model if you ask me.

"Wake me...when you need me."

It's a combination of factors: the 'darkout' Bungie has, the fact that Halo is now in 343i and a few other things.

Don't worry though. We (The Sevent7 Column) are still marching towards global domination.

Peeling off part of your audience and handing them to someone else is pretty common when also peeling off a product offering. I'm sure Bungie would prefer to convert the "halo only" crowd that has moved over to 343i, but it's not an unreasonable thought that they are letting them go.

This is pretty much what I'm thinking; Bungie seems to be more appreciative of their fans than most other developers, so I can't imagine that they're wanting to drive any users away (not even the trolls).

Unfortunately, since Halo is no longer theirs and since they're not ready to reveal anything about "Destiny" yet, a drop-off in community activity was to be expected. I'd say it's likely to get even worse before it gets any better as I don't expect Bungie to have anything major to share with us until sometime after the New Year.

Yet they aren't doing anything to keep the community going either. They're letting everything die down.

A few "we are in fact still here" type news posts would be nice. I'll even take a long troll post from the news queue.

But Bnet reminds me of the night shift at my old office. Dark, quite accept for the sound of the TV in the background and the occational single person that might be in there with me.

Well, if they have no info on their new game to share, what would you have them do? What could they do to revitalize the community and sustain it?

Urk and the others do post still, though I'm sure the bulk of their attention is on Destiny. I know a lot of people joke and say they'd be happy just to see weekly updates pertaining to trivial things that happened in the office or whatnot, but let's be honest and say that those are only jokes and very few people would actually be entertained by that.

I'd rather them keep their focus on Destiny than spend time trying to entice the forums to stay active, personally.

I always loved working the night-shift just because of that.

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

Seems there's a bit of chicken little going on here, "The sky is falling!", bah! This cycle is nothing new, even between Halo games there was a drop in site traffic. It's just a little harsher due to going dark (obviously), all the information we had have on the new project has been speculated on to death.

No, the traffic will bounce back when new information is shared, more speculation will drive that for sure.

As for Bungie not doing anything to "convert" Halo fans into something more. Short of releasing more information on their current project there's not much they can do in that regard.

I have every confidence, as I'm sure they do, that the community (wayward sheep included) will return as soon as there is something to rally around.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Halo is no longer in Bungie's hands, most of the community has left for that point. Another major factor is that they are being extremely hush about what they are up to now. I fear this may be the darkest point in the Bungie Forums.

If the sky was falling there would be much more activity--I wish it were. :)

I don't remember the forums ever being this slow. I just want to know what you guys think about it and why you think Bungie (with very competent community managers) is allowing things to wind down so much.

Speculation, Bungie is quiet, new database inbound. After the Title Update on Reach I expect something on Bungies end to be revealed on their new project since their Halo era is over.

The Chicken Little remark was in regards to you and crying out about the decline in activity here. And the reason you haven't noticed things winding down so much is because it's a little different this time. In the past we still knew it was going to be a Halo game so we could still speculate about what we wanted and what might happen in the story. This time though we have no information on characters, setting, anything that could be discussed.

Honestly I think Bungie's doing the best job they can given what they have to work with. What would you have them do?
