Subject: 20th Anniversary Video Portrays Halo 2 as a Failure? So Yes/No Remake?

Something smells fishy...

After watching the O Brave New World 20th Anniversary video I noticed Bungie portrayed Halo 2 as not one their best games; maybe even a failure. A failure that was not as good as Halo Combat Evolved. It seemed Halo 2 was not viewed by the Bungie team as its finest hour.

Now that does not take away that Halo 2 was a decent Halo game that many Halo fans enjoyed.

I know Microsoft now has the rights to Halo so therefore it's up to Microsoft to create a remake of Halo 2. But I'm not sure whether or not Microsoft views Halo 2 the same way Bungie does. If Microsoft does then I highly doubt there will be a remake. But on the other hand if Microsoft does not share the same views as Bungie then I wouldn't entirely dismiss a Halo 2 remake.

One game I'm not joking a little like 7 year old said and I quote " tell me what your dick looks like so I can imagine it in my head and beat off to it"

If Team Swat became ranked, would there still be no shields?

Amazing!

In terms of the glitches, networking faults, and so on it was a failure for them as a developer. Still, it was their best MP game to date and one for XBL in the past seven years.

But if you pay close attention to their videos, they seem to have some distaste for their overall design in Halo 2 and love the work they did in Reach, for example.

Shows you maybe, just maybe, it's good they're passing the torch and doing something else.

When asked about a Halo 2 Remake, Dan Ayoub (one of those uber-important 343i guys) never denied the possibility. His answer was more or less if there's demand for it.

It made MS money and helped quadruple the amount of users on xbox live, so to them it was a success.

I think more so for bungie it was a dark time because they fell short of so many things they wanted to be in the game that had to be cut. If I were in their position, although very successful and extremely enjoyable, from a developers stand point the "all that could have been" potential of it probably weighs heavy on them.

No matter how great it turned out, they wanted to do more with it.

This, and now the 343 people, some of whom came from Bungie may want to finish what they originally started.

This is actually the stupidest thing ever posted on B.net:

It was a "failure" because they didn't get to add everything they had hoped.

It wasn't a failure in itself.

I think Halo 2 was amazing.

I'd be willing to bet that in order for there to be a remake of Halo 2 Microsoft will probably consider whether or not the game will sell well. If Microsoft believes the remake won't sell well then there may never be a remake of Halo 2.

In my opinion I believe Microsoft and 343 should have remade both Halo Combat Evolved and Halo 2 and made the release consist of a two disk set of both remade games. Therefore the fans would be satisfied.

You got stuck by FalconStickr

I feel if 343 remade Halo 2 I would most likely drive to the studio to smack Frank in the face. They would fix the mad glitching (most likely) and just ruin what was great 7 years ago. Its sad that the video game industry is taking after the movie industry and remaking games for only one thing, money! Be more original and come up with your own stuff then remake a game. Sad world we live in, but that's just my opinion on the matter of remakes.

If it was a failure, then even bungies failures are spectacular.

No, they meant it ws a failure in comparison to their original vision, in any other metric you care to name halo 2 was a roaring success.

It was also the game that nearly broke bungie studios. They still have nightmares over its development cycle, they had to scrap the whole thing and start again like 12 months from launch, just after the e3 2003 demo infact. But i believe halo 2 was the game that forged bungie studios in the company they are today, and what they learned from the experience will do them well for years to come.

Forged in the fire.

I agree with this right here. I too am frustrated with the lack of originality in the movie and video game industry. But I have to say that, in my opinion, the movie industry is the main perpetrator. I'm tired of unoriginal films, sequels or prequels of old films, and remakes of old films.

Yeah I found it funny that the game they saw as a "failure" was seen so greatly across their fans and what made xbox live what it was (watch Halofest for that).

But the game they saw as "the greatest fps's of all time" (Reach) is such a complete pile of trash in a lot of the fans eyes.

I'm also shocked to see this forum not know about the possibility of a H2 remake. I was going to post it awhile ago because I saw an article (that I didn't save an had a hard time finding again) about it and it was then later answered on at Halofest (I believe) so I figured this forum would know.

All they basically said was that (not exact words) "The reason they were doing CE was because it's what the fans have asked for so long and it was its 10th anniversary. If we were going to do Halo 2 it would have to be for the right reasons".

Something like that.

Basically, its not out of the question.

I highly doubt they would remove the glitches an what not, it wouldn't be Halo 2 without them, it wouldn't be a remake without them. They aren't removing the glitches from CE with the Anniversary of it.
