I'm curious as the reason why Bungie has chosen to go dark on their current title. Why not illuminate your project? Why not let the community know the current phase, the current challenges, or the current triumphs of your project?
Does Bungie go dark because it is a standard practices among the gaming industry? Is Bungie afraid that someone else will profit from their idea before they themselves have a chance to profit?
Personally I believe that Bungie would benefit from giving the community information about their current project. Especially if the project is a year or two for going gold. Divulging information about the product will not only define your user base, but will also help grow your user base.
Yet on the other hand, I can also see how having the community know too much could be a burden. Everyone has their own input to what they would like to see in the next title, and this could have a negative impact upon the developers and engineers. If anything Bungie should have a 'reverse darkness'. Where information is given to the public, but the studio is denied access to community.
I don't know, rules are made to be broken, and boundaries are made to be exceeded.
