Plasma, ideas do not = rules. It has never been stated Spartan III's could not use MJOLNIR, nor that specialized teams didn't use it in place of SPI.
Once again, I'm so sorry for loosely using the word "rules". "Choose your own adventure" to pick a word more suitable if you don't like it.
I'm also not arguing they were physically incapable of using MJOLNIR. I already stated I incorrectly recalled that piece of information.
It was also never stated specialized teams did use anything but SPI. All I am saying is that Bungie created this exception when they needed it, and I don't think you should go around creating exceptions for things just because you can. In my opinion, that is sloppy storytelling.
I've already recanted my statement that S-IIIs are physically incapable of using MJOLNIR. My only problem now is that I don't think Bungie mindfully made the decision the have these particular S-IIIs use MJOLNIR, and instead made the decision more impulsively as a way to create a convenient hybrid of S-IIs and ODSTs. Also, the fact that no standard S-IIIs have even been shown in any games, including Reach, makes me think that Bungie was taking advantage of the fact most fans haven't actually read the books and thus wouldn't know the difference anyway.
I like Halo, and I like Bungie. But after having time to reflect on Reach and listening to Bungie's attitude towards the game on the Podcast and ViDocs, I simply found them to be a bit arrogant this time around. So forgive me if I am a bit cynical in the way I interpret Bungie's decisions.
But quite honestly, I don't care about this argument. It's not really the biggest problem in the world (or that I have with Reach) that these S-IIIs are using MJOLNIR (which, once again, I'm pretty sure I've already stated).
No, "S-IIIs can't/won't use power armor, ever" was not explicitly stated.
