This thread will be one of several ones i shall be posting soon. Basically what i need is for you guys and girls to post what really attracts you to a chapter/group.

Is it perhaps the amount of members? An impressive resource section? Activity in the forums? they use that theme you really like? What?

Please post with as much detail as you can give me and as much as you can be bothered to type.

its like a large force of win going through fusion, thus creating a chain reaction of a huge asplosion of win destroying any fail within its awesomeness.

Most people would join if the group is active and the description of the group ( In an ad) is good.

Thank you, but i did not ask for this to turn into The Classifieds. If you really want to advertise your chapter, use The Classifieds (even if was just as an example).

Unfortunatly, you did misinterpret it =P

Taken from the 7th Column
Group: The term group refers a member controlled micro-site within Bungie.net - either a "Chapter" or a "Clan". Currently these two types of groups offer the same functionality but over time each will have subtle differences. The 7th Column is made up of thousands of user-made groups, each with their own unique content. Each group has its own news, forums, resources and membership rules. Members can do various things within your group based on their permission level, which is set by a group administrator.

Chapter: A chapter is a type of group that's not a clan. In most cases, chapters are casual hangouts for people looking to set up LAN parties, discuss similar interests, etc.. A chapter is not tied directly to Halo 2 on Xbox Live but can center around just about anything else.

Ok, so now you understand you can answer the question if you wish ;]

Well I enjoy the sweet scent of chapters. Smells like...honey.

Usefulness. Lot's of activity? Not interested. Many members? Who cares.
A chapter has to be useful to me. What's useful? A chapter I can use to reach things. Cfounders, for whenever I need chapter help. Or TCC and 7CC chapters that manage to accomplish things. I don't care that much about discussions about theories, or interesting articles about odst's. It's all fun at all, but I can get those things from the main forums as well, or otherwise other places in the internet. So yeah, usefulness is one of the most important things for me.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

I tend to join a chapter if it is active and interesting. By interesting, I mean interesting to me. I'm not going to join a group if the point is to flame other members. I'm not going to join a group if I can't find anything that interests me. Activity is also key, since it means that if I like the discussion, I can discuss a lot.

(Might I inquire the reason why you have "Poll" in your title, but no poll in your thread?)

Thus the proceeding question mark. It's sort of a poll but not quite up to normal poll standards and or requirements. Think of it as a baby poll. Not yet fully matured into a fully grown poll. Young, weak and in need of information for survival

If the theme of the group is something that I enjoy talking about, like Sci-Fi, I will most likely join. Like Mabian said, if it doesn't interest you, why join? I will not join a group/chapter if the home page is filled with spelling and grammar errors. It just bugs me, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who does that.

I tend to join a group based on what kind of people are in there.
I can stand some serious spamming , but even some people can cross the line for me.
This can usually be seen with a first look on their forum and at their members.

A serious chapter with a broad taste and variety would attract me the most as thered be room for serious conversations (science , politics , ..) and also a place for offtopic stuff which boosts the community feeling I love so deerly.
I don't know how everyone else feels about this, but I really love to have a random chat with another member and getting to know him better that way.

I'm just one too many mornings and a thousand miles behind.

Like Fiurha said, the Chapter has to be a serious one. There needs to be a clear set of rules and it needs to be understood who does what.

I'd be more inclined to join and participate in the Chapter if they had a website and/or XBL clan.

Also, it depends on who the people are and why they've made the Chapter. I believe each Chapter should have a purpose, and each one should do its part in the 7th Column.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

What attracts me is the amount of members, who the members are (if I've seen them around), what the group's about, and that's about all. Sometimes I might quick join a chapter to see what the forum topics are about.

Mourne not your comrades who must dwell / too strong to strive -
Within each steel-bound coffin of a cell, / Buried alive;
But rather mourne the apathetic throng / The cowed, and the meek -
Who see the world’s great anguish and its wrong / And dare not speak.

[group]167741|Diner|Where's the food?[/group]

First I'll check what the group is about, to see if it interests me. Then I check the amount of members, but it isn't that important, just so long as there are enough people to actually have some activity.

The main deciding factor for me is who is in the group. If I see a few people I know and like, then I will be much more inclined to join, since I trust their opinion.

But if I don't see anyone, I know, it doesn't mean I won't join, as long as the topic is interesting.

So I guess what I'm saying is that the most important things are what the group is about, and who is in it.

Oh, and if I join a group, but see that it is dying, I will usually just leave.

Usually the only reason I am in a group-or chapter, is because of who is in it. I like to join chapters where there are people that I know. Sometimes I join a random chapter that intrigues me for whatever reason-but most likely I don't end up staying-I've joined some of the biggest chapters around-and I won't stay in them just because they are "popular" if it doesn't intrigue me-I have no reason to stay.
Some of the funnest groups I've been in are groups where all we do is goof off, have silly contests and talk about nothing-its a way to blow off some steam.

Seventh Column Contests

Hmm, I guess one of the first thing that gets my attention is the name of the chapter. Name is very important to me because that is the thing that (most of the time) determines what kind of a chapter it is. I dont think resource and member count makes a huge difference in my opinion. Yeah, with the member count it makes the chapter more popular but popularity is not everything although it does seem like that sometimes. Resources are great and all, but hey! most of the members dont know of it's existence.

Activity. The forum of a group is what I go for . If it has good members and an active forum I will stay. Cool, Active members who have similar interests as me Is what I look for in a group. If the forum doesn't hold my interest I wont show up much.

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

A really good founder...sometimes I look at the founder's groups section and see how high in the rankings that founder is...if they are high...they are most likely a good member and are going to know how to run the group.

Also...the group has to have a good theme to go along with...like Star Wars or Halo.

And the group also needs to be active and have a lot of members...although...I've joined a few young groups...

So thats what I look for in a good chapter.
