Hey look, an original idea...
With this and chat, we may as well make it required for all users to have avatars that are exclusively their cleavage. And call it BungieBook.

OT: stop making more "i wnt a chat, bungee!!!" threads. Just post in the other ones. They shouldn't be past page 5 at this point.

Eh. It wouldn't really change things much for me personally. Usually, when I see the term "friend list" (as opposed to, say, "contact list" or "address book") I'm thinking of a tool that allows me to see who's online at a given time. Since Bungie.net has no live interaction features, I really don't see a point in me having that kind of information.

Now, if there was a chat added or online games added, I'd get it, but that's another thing I personally wouldn't use just because there are already so many other programs and websites for that, and I really don't need any more clutter in those areas.

"We live in a special time; the only time where we can observationally verify that we live in a very special time" - Lawrence Krauss.

I was a finalist :P

Just ask people here to be your X-box live friends and, if you have a linked gamertag, they will appear when you click next to that green triangle with a circle on top (when they are online). That is as good a friend list as any.

Underlined is where it's a problem. Plus, that list is for Xbox LIVE, not Bungie.net - different circles of people, and less site integration between the two.

If there's going to be a friends list, it has to be one that's directly centred around you (attached to your bungie.net account).

What is the point of a Bungie.net friends list? Give me the reasons it should be implemented. As far as I'm concerned, there are none without a chat feature on the site.

Remembering 20 years of the best developing around.
Good luck, guys you always have my support.

I say it can have its pros and cons

Pros: Talk to your select group of people while still being able to check stats and reply to threads.

Cons: Someone in your group might have a friend join and the friend my troll the -blam!- out of you guys.

Your "Pro" is irrelevant without a chat feature.....

I would like this, but only if had some sort of chat system or something.

A way for me to quickly identify and connect/communicate with the people I want to here. As I said before, there currently isn't a way to do that on here. And no, I'm not specifically referring to the use of a chat feature - I'm thinking beyond that.

Plenty of other websites not unlike this one have friend lists. I don't think your argument holds up.

343i's forums allow you have a friends list, I believe.

Google+ had circles, people liked it. Facebook tried their take at it, people didn't like it. If it isn't broken, don't fix it.

And it has no point. Other than to message people. Which can easily be done with a search feature. It saves you 10 seconds at the most. Its a feature for features sake rather than convenience rather than an actual point.

You have yet to give a legitimate reason as to why a 'Friends List' would be a problem, besides the fact that it's a bit superfluous.

You're speaking very vaguely. I have no idea what you're talking about in respect to the communication between members on the site that can be helped by knowing when they're online. Considering PM-ing people is just a game of phone-tag, I don't see how that could be helped.

If you could be more specific so I can see what exactly it is you're talking about, that would be great. :)

Implementing a feature for the sake of implementing a feature is stupid, in my honest opinion.

We could also have a little picture of Achronos that comes up like the Microsoft Word paper clip when you post in the flood that says "It looks like you're posting in the flood. Might I suggest adding more shock sites and memes?" But that would be stupid and have no purpose. We could have ponies fly across the screen when you click on the Universe Forum, but that would be equally idiotic and 10x as nonsensical.

And before you say "those are totally irrelevant and have nothing to do with the site", I don't care. The analogy works, makes sense, and until someone can tell me why it should be implemented with SPECIFIC details, it invalidates the friends list as far as I'm concerned.

  • 09.21.2011 7:39 PM PDT

Quote feature, pinned topics, stickies, the 'save thread' feature, and the forums themselves are all stupid. Interesting view.

"I have no words that would do justice to the atrocities you commit to the English language, as well as your continued assaults on the concepts of basic literacy and logical reasoning."

What do you mean? Bungie.net is a site dedicated to being a gathering place for people who, at one time or another, are fans/players of Bungie games.

That can easily describe a "social network".

Wouldn't it be great if the default response was a discussion of how a friends list might be placed on bungie.net, how that would impact other systems, the social dynamic, groups, public forum, game interaction, etc.? But no, instead, we get "Bungie.net is not Facebook", which, if you really think about it, means absolutely nothing at all. *rolls eyes*

We were somewhere around Barstow...

Whatever, it's so obvious you guys are trying to implement some facebook-like features here. I'd say it's your dream for this place to be 'The Gamer Social Network'.

It's sad because a few years ago such things would be considered blasphemy.

Hey, I'm all for a Friends List. It sounds helpful, and I know that I personally would find it useful.

Quote Feature: Allows users to know the specific part of any given post that you are responding to, or to read the entirety of a conversation so as to gain knowledge of the context of the post.

Pinned Topics: Important threads that all users should read so as to gain important information about whatever thread they are posting in (barring the Flood library... oh the flood library.)

Stickies: Slang term for a pinned topic, way to make your list look bigger than it is.

Forums: Used to promote discussion focused around a common and central theme between the users of a website.

None of these were implemented for the sake of implementing. They were implemented for the sake of function, communication, and/or convenience.

The friends list feature, let's see... you can see when people are online. K... cool... How does that help you in the slightest or accomplish any goal whatsoever?

I have no problem with Socialization. But socialization for the sake of socialization with no rhyme, reason, point, or meaning is ridiculously and confusingly out of place on BNet.

  • 09.21.2011 8:01 PM PDT

Friends List: Used to communicate with other users quicker and remember specific users easier.

...Is this a real question?

I know that socialization of the site would be a good thing, all I'm saying is that socialization should have a purpose. Friends list would work coupled with the inclusion of a chat feature. But JUST a friends list wouldn't make sense.

(I know this wasn't directed at me, obviously, just figured I'd put in my two cents considering I'm one of the people talking about how it would be bad on the thread)
